Having A Bad Day?

Well, I'm chatting with CelesJessa via AIM right now, and she told me about having been evacuated from a forest fire, flash flood, and tornado. Right now I'm teasing(-coughtormentingcough-) her about the only element she hasn't gotten hit by is earth, by randomly typing "EARTHQUAKE!" So, anyway, what have some of your unlucky encounters been?

Oh yeah! Padding the post count!

*cough* Did I say that? No. No I didn't.

Anyway, I was in that hurricane that was going on last year. Isabelle. No real damage, but our neighbor gave us his walnut tree. Through his fence.

We have floods all the time. But luckily I live on a hill so I kind of just watch as the valley fills up with water. lol And I've sat in a car before as a tornado went right down the street beside me. It was tearing up the other side of the road but did nothing but shake my car.

I've got quite a story:

Last September, Nova Scotia got hit by Hurricane Juan, and it was the worst storm that we had encountered in years.

Let's start with how screwed up my family got.

1. My Brother and Sister-in-law's bedroom ceiling collapsed, leaving them homeless for a while so they had to stay with us.

2. My mother's best friend was visiting from Kelona (where there were Forest Fires raging at the time) only to come right smack in the middle of Juan. She was also staying with us.

3. My brother's best friends trailor blew over, so he and his pregnant wife had to stay with us.

4. My Sister-in-law's mother was visiting during Juan, so she had to stay with us because my Brother and Sister-in-law were homeless.

on top of the 3 people who already live in my house, we had a total of 9.5 people living in my house for about a week with no electricity, no heat, and no warm water.

[sarcasm] whee. [/sarcasm]

I've been completely stranded inside of my house twice. As in, I was unable to open or traverse through my front, back, or side doors. The first time it happened was a few years ago when we in NJ were hit with a bad noreaster. It dumped a total of 4 feet of snow in our county! The doors were stuck, but hopefully the pipes were still thawed and we had not lost electricity.

The second time also happened quite a long time ago. On my street are two small rivers that we have small cement bridges built over for cars on our road. The rivers are located a few yards to the left and right of my house. We were hit with a torrential downpour that flooded both rivers and covered my backyard and frontyard with 3 inches of standing water. Plus, my basement had a foot of runoff in it. Word of advice, never leave litter boxes in the basement during rainstorms. We had...stuff floating everywhere.

Before I begin, I would like to say that I hate the term 'Noreaster', and I wish it would die.

Returning to the topic, I have nearly died in the cold during a Massachusetts blizzard. My mother, sister, and I were idiots and went ice-skating during a blizzard. When we decided it was too cold, we walked back to the car, only to find that we were locked out of it. My sister had sufficient body fat, and a whole lot of adrenaline. She seemed fine. My mother was anxious enough about the whole situation that she also seemed to be creating enough heat. I, on the other hand, woke in a hospital bed feeling very, very tingly. When I was told how close I had been to death, I laughed hysterically.

I have also been quite dangerously dehydrated twice, been held under water in a kayak for far too long, fallen 25 feet at a fifteen-degree angle onto rock after a friend threw me down, and... cut my finger last week, I suppose. But the others are interesting, right?

It's the infection that'll kill ya!

Hmmm my worst story had to be back in 96 when a hurricane rocked my house the day I got my tonsils removed. Great I was stuck at home for a week unable to talk while the power was out, and unable to talk.

Lucky huh.

I crapped my pants in a car on the way home from a road trip with a bunch of friends. Oky so it had nothing to do with luck, I absolutely planned that one out.

... was it a hot day?

Anyway, if the Hurricane wasn't bad enough, in February of this year we got hit by a Blizzard of terrible proportions. Bob complains about his 4 feet of snow. We got 6 feet. that didn't include where the snow had piled up in drifts. We couldn't see our car, and I (Being a short person) was having an incredible time plowing/shoveling my way out of the house. I did manage to shovel out a little cave to sit in while I got tired. It took a total of 5 days to shovel out our whole driveway.
