Is it possible to ban an IP address
 

It seems are recent flamer is not going to give up so something more permanent may have to be tried. I'm all for setting examples but this guy is getting out of hand. So I say make a really big example and ban every computer he uses to spam the forum.

Sidenote: I think perhasp he has some relation to wintermute. Perhasp wintermute decided to go crazy a didn't want to lose his account. I could be wrong though.

I've seen permanents like this before. But I can see there being problems with banning an IP adress that is if it could be done...

There are multiple ways to get around IP bans. I tend to use school computers; there's lots of them, and thus lots of IPs to be used. However, this guy doesn't seem like he's in college. Also, for 56kers, most ISPs provide a random IP per log-in, thus a 56ker can have literally thousands of IPs; this is how voting problems based on IPs occur over at gamefaqs.com. And for broadband users, experienced hackers and programmers can easily mask their IPs. But, this guy doesn't seem to be smart enough to know how to do that. Also, you could leave a cookie in his computer, but cookies can be deleted. He doesn't come across as the person to know how to delete cookies, really. Probably the best thing to do would be to contact his ISP. Again, if he was using school computers, that wouldn't do a damn thing. But, also again, he doesn't appear to be going to college, nor does he seem smart enough to know how to do anything else I've described.

Let's put it this way: that foo' is not right. I flamed him good on AIM and all he could do was counter with his sexual frusteration about his mother.

Yeah, that's just adorable. Tee hee, all he's doing is making more work for people who already put up with more crap than anybody who doesn't have a teaching degree should have to! Posting the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over? Oscar Wilde's maggots are jealous! LOLLERCOASTER!

Edited to add: since Wintermute apparently doesn't get why he was banned (if flip wasn't lying about that, anyway), let me clarify: he said exactly the same thing you just did, directly to flip. If he still doesn't get why that got him temporarily banned, I don't know what to tell him that will make it any clearer.

So, just out of curiosity, are you going to contact his ISP? The way things go now, all you have is lots of work and rage, and half the forums end up getting (temp-)banned because of one idiot...

(Although most of them really had it coming.)

We don't care that much. We barely care at all.

They're gone now, we'll ban them if they come back. It's nothing to us.

The rage only comes from people who really ought to know better acting as if they don't.

Contacting his ISP might work, I guess, assuming they'll give a damn.
