"I have the basics understood, but run it by me again just so I make sure I know what I'm doing." Jason replied.

Britomir woke up on the floor of his apartment. Rubbing his eyes, he stood up carefully, trying not to set off his aching back. Dammit... gotta stop working until I pass out.... probably not to good for me... He bent over to pick up his sodder gun and the board he had been working on. He carefully put the board in a plastic anitstatic bag, and the sodder gun in his belt. Glancing at the clock he exclaimed, "Shit! It's already noon! God dammit... they wanted me there by 10:30.... At least I got their board done." He hurriedly grabbed the rest of his equiptment and the specialized board and ran out the door and down to his HiFi. I'm so glad that they picked me for this job... i don't really care why they want to modify a robot's emotion board, as long as i can pay for this car....

He quickly pulled out and went as fast as legally possible over to the Roboics building, managing to get there just after 12:30. He ran up to the door, where a man in a buisness suit was waiting for him, looking rather annoyed.

"You were supposed to be here 2 hours ago!" The fury in the man's voice was barely concealed.

"I know, I know... I got your chip board done though!" Britomir flashed a nervous grin hoping that he wouldn't get pulled off the job for this. The man in the suit sputtered for a moment, then took a deep breath and regained his composure.

"Fine... Good! Now come on, you've left Dr. Asu and Jason waiting!"

With this Britomir was led to Dr. Asu's office...

Tobias stood at the scene of Dr. Berner's murder. Sometimes working with the police department, he had a vast knowledge of criminals and they ways they acted. He closely examined the body and approached the officer. "What've you got, Farhann?" the officer asked. "This man was indeed killed by a robot, sir. The strangle marks were made by humanoid hands, yet no unusual fingerprints were found on the body. I extpected this to happen. The robots are freeing themselves and becoming renegades." The officer nodded. "Thanks, Tobias." he said. "You've been a big help to the department, with all your military training. You might even want to consider a job on the force. I'll vouch for you." Tobias grinned. "Thanks, Sergeant, I'll consider it." He shook the sergeant's hand and walked away. "Now to find a robotics company and identify what kind of robot killed Dr. Berner." He soon located the Roboics building and parked his motorcycle. He entered and approached the front desk. "Hello. What can I do for you?" said a woman at the desk. "Yeah. I'm Tobias Farhann. I work with the police. I'm investigating the murder of Dr. Berner. Where could I find the new head?" The woman showed him to the door to Dr. Asu's office. "I'm sorry, but he's working right now." He ignored her and shoved her aside. "I insist." He opened the door.

Bill nodded at his newest worker. "All right, I'll just give the complete rundown incase I forget something, just ask."

Bill took a breath, "I really am excited to see this project get to work, but most people seem to get the wrong idea about this." He sat down and pulled out a blueprint. If one wasn't careful, some might have mistaken it for a human skeleton diagram. "As you can see, we set up the framework to match that of a human, so basically they will have the same weaknesses as us... that is... if they can break bones made of tritanium" He chuckled.

He pulled out another blueprint. Again, it was a human diagram of a human's nervous system, the veins and everything. "This is the wiring. We've actually set up a new system that allows the robot to feel things. Now this may not seem as important as normal, but now the robot will feel pain." Bill looked around for a good way to explain it, "It's like a human. When the hand toushes something hot, it sends a signal from the sensory organs on the fingertip, up the hand, the arm, the shoulder, neck, and head to the brain, which takes the signal, and says that what we are touching is hot. It will then send back a signal to pull away the hand, to preseve the hand... that is, if you so choose to."

Pulling out another map of blue he showed the human organ system, only in blocks, "This is the actually mechanics of the robot. We don't really need to go over this, but I should point out two things. One is here." He pointed to where there was a square showing the heart. "I've had a board specilist make us a certain device with an "Emotion chip." This is where most people get things wrong, because a robot cannot feel angry or sad or anything like that. This chip will allow it to mimic human emotions based on science. Uh... stress levels, crying, sweating, increased heart rate and breathing, the works. The robot will decide which emotion to show, but it really down't feel it. If anything, it would be like putting on a mask. I would show you more but..."

That's when the door opened revealing Britomir, the board maker. "What great timing!" He took the board, inspected it, smiled and nodded. "Excellent! This is a great piece of work you have made." He supplied him a friendly look. "This must have taken you hours to make. I hope you got some sleep." He turned to Jason. "I am holding in my hands the robot's heart." He layed it flat on his left palm, and pointed to a small black chip on the board. "This piece here... that's the emotion chip. This was designed and made from the great Dr. Berner." His smiled soon faded as he leaned back in his chair and sighed. "I miss him..."

He shook his head, and put on a mask of joy, "But that is in the past! I have to show you what really makes the "Humbot" think!" He stood up and walked to the door, "If you would follow me..."

"I insist..." He heard through the door as it opened and nearly hit him in the face. Bill tried to identify the inturder, but no name came to mind. "Excuse me... What are you doing here?"

*Tending to a guest she smiled in reply as the tip was handed to her. Placing it firmly toward her pocket she made her way for the back, stopping as she set a few dirty plates in front of Victor.*

My shift is almost over, but I think I might take it early.

*She gazed upon him, but no real answer came in turn. His face was solid, almost marked as anger as he sighed.*

"You hear the rumors yet? It seems they're trying to make a robot like a human. Emotions and all. How stupid can we get? A mechine is a mechine, it doesn't need a personality while doing its job..."

*She opend her mouth to speak, but nothing really came out. The thought of the one robot having emotions, what would of happened then. Would her parents still be dead? Deciding just to leave him to his thoughts she turned, undoing her apron and all. Setting it aside she picked up her back pack and making her way for the door.

Today was going to be a long day, whether she wanted it or not. Her strides up street was rather dull, nothing too exciting, she had too much on her mind. All of that changed when a hand reached out, grasping her by the wrist and yanking her into the alley way. The funny thing is, the hand had no real warmth.*

-You humans, thank you can control us?!-

*Her eyes widdened as seeing it was in fact a robot, but not just anyone. Her very own, once again she was left speachless as his hand traveled up for her throat. Not too stunned for that she dunked, lifting her book bag free and slamming it against his skull, or head, whichever you might prefer. Watching him stumble back she say a couple of wires loose in the frame of him.*

-I've finally tracked you down. You wont run!-

Why are you doing this?!

*She edged her steps away carefully, making sure not to make any sudden movements to cause him to charge at her again.*

John was riding home when he heard shouting from an alley. He stopped his motorcycle and parked it and looked inside. A robot had cornered a rookie police officer and was strangling him. John, seeing things looking bad, pulled out his gun and fired at the robot's head. Being without practice, he only managed to skim the back of the neck, but that was enough to down it. The officer dropped and began rubbing his neck. John offered his hand to help him up. "What happened?"
"I dunno. I was chasing a thief when that robot jumped me."
"Must have been the thief's bot."
"But what about the laws? A robot cannot harm a hu-"
"A human or, through inactivity, allow a human to be harmed. I'm guessing the thief had sufficient programming ability to bypass that law. I made mine able to protect me from human assailents."
"Wow. That's just scary."
"Almost as scary as a robot that can hate."
"Yea- what?"
"Nevermind. Just don't be suprised if things get busy."

MC43 07-22-2004 07:22 PM

OOC: Guys... the robots cannot disobey the three laws. It is impossible for them to do it. I've been letting it go, but the robots aren't evil yet. This is just the opening...

Tobias extended his hand. "Tobias Farhann, sir. Former Delta Force and now cooperating with the police. I'm looking into the murder of your deceased boss, Dr. Berner." Tobias set several autopse pictures on the table, showing the late doctor's strangled neck from multiple angles. "As you can see, no weapon was used to strangle Berner, meaning it was done by something with human-like hands. However, no fingerprints were found on the victim's neck save his own, and the body wasn't in the right positon for Berner to have strangled himself. Plus, the wounds on the neck were too strong to have been done by a normal human, for the juggular had been crushed in four places. There were also no signs of forced entry, so whatever killed him had been inside with his permission." Tobias sat down, his face grim. "Our only plausible conclusion is that one of Berner's robots murdered him. His purchases and receipts indicate that all robots in his possession are Roboics models, so you're our first lead. I need you to identify if these wounds were caused by one of your robots, and you can't refuse." He removed another piece of paper. "I've a warrant. If you should choose to not comply, I'll come back with a warrant for your arrest."

OOC: For those who might not know, Delta Force is the most elite fighting force in the United States. Kinda like the present-day Green Berets.

Bill winced in pain at the photos shown, then his eye twitched when he heard that a robot had done it. He took a breath to try and contain composure. "Excuse me for a minute you two... I don't expect this to take long..." Britomir and Jason shot each other glances, then left the room per his orders. (GM's note: This will help speed things up)

After the door had closed them off from Bill and his interigator, he took a step foward and pointed a finger at him, "Listen! A robot cannot harm a human, it is impossible! They have the three laws that state that they cannot, and will not, let a human come to any sort of harm what so ever, weather it be direct or indirect, those marks could have been made some device! Everyone knows that humans are getting fake limbs now and then. That is the cause!!" Bill took a step back and took a breath.

"I'm sorry sir. I'm under a lot of stress right now. Br. Berner was a good friend and teacher, and I still can't believe that he died. I'm taking this kinda hard. But it is impossible for a robot to kill a human. Physically impossible. I hate to say it, but you have to look elsewhere. I will help out as much as I can, so please, if you have any questions now, ask them. If not, I was in the middle of my job. I do have a deadline you know."

DeathToFighter 07-22-2004 10:40 PM

Britomir walked out of the room with Jason, then as soon as the door was closed crouched down and put his ear up to it. He listened intently for a few seconds, then lost interest, stood up and leaned against the wall. Looking over at Jason he said, "So what're you working on? I'll assume you already know I'm doing the emotion chip as Dr. Asu had mentioned it."
