There is a card game movie, its a yugioh movie. That thing is going to be the most gigantic gathering of 8 year olds i can fathom.

oh god, make it stop, make it stop.

A short series based on the Night Watch books would be cool as hell. Possibly an animated series, if you could find decent voice actors...they did Wyrd Sisters and a couple of other Pratchett things like that, and it worked very well. Even if I argued with how they pronouced names...
Note to self: Read Nightwatch (the Book) and Monstrous Regiment again. |

That would be great. The little kiddies go in expecting the same old mushy friendship and anti-climatic card games, and they get 10 year olds with uzi's, people being dismembered, and all that good stuff. The looks that would be on their faces.

The plot and dialogue of Duel Masters is delibertly like that. I thinks it great because it's like a bunch of anime nerds got together and wing the dialogue of the entire series.
They do it to a minor extent in Rave Master. |
I must say, I agree that the Discworld novels would be great. The Night Watch series would be very good, but I'd most love to see the Rincewind series. I'd love to see poor old Rincewind doing things like facing off against the terrible Things from the Dungeon Dimensions with a sock full of sand. :D I definitely agree with Mashirosen on the cast, it would pretty much have to be British, and probably have a British director as well. While Stephen Spielberg might be able to do it, there's too high a chance that an American director would miss much of the British humour and replace it with some lesser humour (there is a lot of precedent for this, but individual instances escape me right now).
Personally, I would prefer live-action to animation. I think that it would suit Pratchett's world a bit more than animation. I never got to see the animated series over here. Unfortunately our TV stations seem to have missed out on this. :( Ah well, they may well show them some day... A game series that might translate well is the Gabriel Knight series. The first two have already translated to book form, and the series is story-rich, so there is the potential for some very good movies there. |
The Belgariad would be a good movie, but only if Daving Eddings himself did all of the casting, screenplay writing, producing and directing. Anyone else would suck. And Sean Connery would make a friggin' awesome Belgarath.
No one should have done timeline, because it made my eyes bleed, and caused my spleen to gibber for the merciful oblivion of death. |

It's too bad, because an animated Discworld could be really stunning -- somebody like Miyazaki or the folks who did the Iron Giant could do amazing things there. |
One book series that shouldn't have been movie-fied was the bourne series. The movie was so far from the book it didn't seem possible. And I heard the second movie wasn't even close to the second book, maybe because the movie takes place in europe and the book took place in asia...
One good moviefication was Children of Dune. It was a well done movie/mini-series. One that is in the works that i hope turns out good is Ender's Game. They have the author of the book help with the script so i have hope. Ok im done rambling. |
