The weirdest cake ever

Today this was the Awful Link of the day at Something Awful. Not for the squeamish.

Someone made a cake that looks like an entire thoracic cavity.

... comment and discuss.

MP37a 07-26-2004 04:34 PM

Yummmy :)

Lost in Time 07-26-2004 04:37 PM

Yeah... I've saw that before... and it still disgusts me. But he must of took alot of work into making an... eatable mangled corpse. I really wonder how it tastes now...

Stabbitty Death 07-26-2004 04:41 PM

This was on that thread "If Black Mage could bake" right? It is still as disgusting as ever.

Meister 07-26-2004 04:47 PM

Ooops. Yes it was... eheh. Didn't look into that thread one time. Sorry 'bout the repeat, mods, feel free to, y'know.

Stabbitty Death 07-26-2004 05:17 PM

Well it's pretty old, so I think you're off the hook. There are a bunch of new members who haven't had a chance to see it.

Ganurath 07-26-2004 05:23 PM

Such as myself. I'd like to give kudos to the cook, the 'blood' on the 'ribs' was a clever touch.

Zweihander 07-26-2004 09:03 PM

Those lungs look like a smoker's...

And the intestine is a nice touch. But the Zombie Cake is cool too, cause its a zombie.

Dac 07-26-2004 11:07 PM

cake never looked so gruesome and digusting but sounded so good to want to eat it all..

Ganurath 07-26-2004 11:17 PM

I'd like to try a rib...

lazy man 07-26-2004 11:32 PM

Was gross, still is gross, but it always looked pretty good for some reason.

Otaku Son 07-26-2004 11:49 PM

Personally, I enjoyed the Something Awful article more.

As for the cake, when I first saw it, I thought it was real organs and turned away. But, this is just some guy's sick hobby to make cakes that look like body parts. Not as sick as the Smearer, but still disturbing. Still, I wouldn't mind eating the cake...once it no longer resembled organs.

It's not so sick when you consider the fact that the woman who baked it is a horror movie buff, "designs scenery and lighting for various theatres around the San Francisco bay area," is "an amazing artist with many obsessive hobbies," and "carves award-winning pumpkins" for PumpkinMasters. I think it's pretty neat. It obviously took a lot of time and talent. I had trouble enough making a bunny rabbit cake for Easter.

I'd rather eat a Cakey liver than -real- liver.

Otaku Son 07-27-2004 01:19 AM

Okay, so then it's a chick with a sick hobby.

I prefer meat over...what is cake made of? Sugar? And some bread here and there? Point is, I'd rather eat real liver over cakey liver.

MY2K 07-27-2004 01:39 AM

the ribs are made of white chocolate, melted and poured on a pan, and hardened.
The rest are all expertly crafted cakes. The intestine is a strawberry Jelly-roll like thing I believe, sounds good to me, mmm. I'd like to try some lung, I bet it's...sponge cake? ahuhuhu.

Uh, excuse me, but the last time I checked, cake was made of two cups of Yum, a pinch of Glee, and a slice of Heaven. I don't know what the heck you've been eating...

Gross! Now who's the sicko? Now who is it?!

Mashirosen 07-27-2004 08:31 AM

Real liver is nasty. You can't tell me it's a good idea to eat a major detoxifying organ, especially when it A) secretes bile to boot and B) tastes like it.

Anyway, I don't know that I could bring myself to eat it, but I like the thorax cake -- and even if you don't, you have to admit that it took a lot of skill. Shoot, according to the zombie cake page, she and a partner in crime do things like make their own cherry cordials, handpainted with colored frosting to look like eyeballs. That's hardcore. I would so hire them for a party if I had the money, lived in San Francisco, or threw parties. The movie reviews are also pretty good, although I worry about the people who leave comments on them -- actual human beings liked some of these movies?!

Jon Garrett 07-27-2004 08:42 AM

I'd eat it if it has marzipan in it. I'll eat damned near anything if it has marzipan in it.

I wish I had artistic skill like that with cakes though. Not only would I be able to cook for a living, something I can actually do (half-trained as a chef) but I could do things like offer to let people eat Cloud. How many fangirls would take me up on that?

Mashirosen 07-27-2004 08:53 AM

Would you eat marzipan wrapped in liver?

Amen!

Anyway. I really want that cake. I don't know if I'd be able to eat it without taking it apart first so it didn't look like organs, but that would be great for my dad, who is a RN in the Emergancy Room. I want some of those ribs though...

But seriously, looking at the proceedure of how it was done. That is so cool! Amazing! Thumbs up to a creative cook. Too bad the rib cage melted before their guests came... the ribcage is what made it look so cool. ^^

Crodevillian Team 07-27-2004 10:53 AM

Mmm! Cake!

I wouldn't eat real liver wrapped in gold, ambrosia, or anything. I wouldn't eat it period. It's probably one of the more disgusting Foodstuffs in the world.

I would, on the other hand, eat the thoracic cake. Then I'd send the tape to Fear Factor, and they'd think I was so hardcore they'd send me the $50,000 right off the bat. White chocolate rib cage? Mm! I'm dying here...

When I die, I want someone with her talent to make a Croteam Cakey Corpse for my funeral, so when it's all done, my friends and family can all have a slice. Cake makes just about any occasion better, so it must work for funerals, too. Plus, I'd die happy knowing that someone was going to make a cake modeled after me.
