Riddles II

Well, they closed the other one...

So here we go again. I have the answer to...

'Twas in heaven pronounced, and 'twas muttered in hell,
An echo caught faintly the sound as it fell;
On the confines of earth 'twas permitted to rest,
And the depths of the ocean its presence confessed;
'Twill be found in the sphere when 'tis riven asunder,
Be seen in the lightning and heard in the thunder.
'Twas allotted to man with his earliest breath,
Attends him at birth, and awaits him in death,
Presides o'er his happiness, honor, and health,
Is the prop of his house, and the end of his wealth.
In the heaps of the miser 'tis hoarded with care,
But is sure to be lost on the prodigal heir.
It begins every hope, every wish it must bound,
With the husbandman toils, and with monarchs is crowned.
Without it the soldier, the seaman may roam,
But woe to the wretch who expels it from home!
In the whispers of conscience its voice will be found,
Nor e'en in the whirlwind of passion be drowned.
'Twill not soften the heart; but though deaf be the ear,
It will make it acutely and instantly hear.
Yet in shade let it rest, like a delicate flower,
Ah... breathe on it softly, - it dies in an hour.

I'm guessing...

The letter "H"?

C-dog 12-01-2003 12:07 AM

Oh man, I bet that's what it is. "H" fits every line of that riddle. I was killing myself trying to figure it out.

Dante 12-01-2003 07:21 AM

GAH! You got it! Curses!!!

Minor Dizaster gets a picture of two girls kissing.

I'm not beaten yet! Take this!

It was asked of me what I could be made,
And so people were fed from me.
It was asked of me what I could be made,
And so houses were built.
It was asked of me what I could be made,
And so things were written.
It was asked of me what I could be made,
And so I fertilized the ground.
But when asked more of what I could be made,
There was nothing to be found.

A tree?
Another riddle...
I contradict myself,
I say I am lying,
I'm impossible, improbable,
I am like Atlantis,
I reflect what is not true,
I am truly untoppable.
What am I?

Cyclone is correct... I have no idea what to give him since I've run out of non-H images...

The answer to yours sounds like a boast or a lie...

Cyclone231 12-01-2003 09:29 AM

Nope, it isn't a boast or a lie.
Try again

Dante 12-01-2003 09:35 AM

Is untoppable a typo? I don't think so, but still...

Next answer: A tall tale.

Cyclone231 12-01-2003 09:51 AM

Maybe. I don't know.
But, no, it isn't a tall tale.

Dante 12-01-2003 09:55 AM

Untoppable here could refer to "Unable to be bested" or merely be a typo of "unstoppable".

Next next answer: A dream.

Cyclone231 12-01-2003 09:57 AM

Nope.
Here, I'll give another stanza.
I am obvious, I am visible,
All know what I am.
