Concept Hashing - The Abattoir
 

I'm thinking of a less stat-dominating sort of 'interaction rather than plot' RP, which revolves around a world anchored in the space-time continuum, thus catching people from all planes and times. This world is one based around gladiatorial contests, and has gained many commercial attention from higher beings because of this. Of course, with a gladiating world, comes fighter's fame. And with the existance of a fighter's fame, comes plots and assassinations towards that goal - as having the fighter's fame means a comfortable living and luxury above all other fighters. This, along with the gore and blood that is the fighting in the arenas, gives the world the name - The Abattoir. (abattoir means slaughterhouse.)

Now, before I pull out details straight out of my bum to make an RP out of this, I would like the omments of the people around here. Should I bother with this idea? If so, what should I add to it, and so on? So far, the concept and the fact that I want all time periods, worlds, and such to be able to participate in it is there.

Hmm... As long as it doesn't turn out into one of them "I nuke you and you nuke me" kind of rp, I'm very interested.

I think it sounds interesting too. Whoever's in charge osf such a place must be quite formidible as well, whihc is something you might want to consider. You might want to think about possible side events like such a place would have a great deal of trading. There's also considerations of what rules on magic/tehcnology/enhancements there would be. So much potential for a bit off the wall characters.

Funnily enough, none of the character ideas which have flitted through my head bear any resemblance to any of these. Well, maybe d), but that's only conincidental. By d) I assume what you really mean is Cloud ripoffs? Besides the simple requirement of having to have your characters approved first solves this problem nicely.

I don't think this is such a hot idea. Well, it is a good idea, but functionally, no. Sure, the whole plots and assassination and such sounds good, but you're gunna have a whole lotta godmodders, and about ten posts in (after the introductions) everybody will try to kill the head guy and take control.

Didn't you have another RP idea that you put in the RP guidelines thread?

Oddly enough I seem to be replying to this particular thread quite a lot. Maybe I'm just bored. Obvisiously if you did have a head guy he'd be virtually untouchable. You can't just run off and tip over that sort of organisation easily. You are dealing with some form of planar nexus don't forget. The head guy would have to be an NPC however, otherwise it could generate a bit of disgruntlement around him. I really don't think god moding will be too much of a problem if you just put a bit of influence onto their characters. Make them all begin as junior members of the fighting guild or whatever its called and let them work their way up.

The guild-type rps are a little too over-used, and too unoriginal. The abattoir seems more of a… free-for-all between equals and the overly-powerful. Since the whole world is based on gladiator-wise combatants, and Kazastankas has gracefully told us, it is a fighter’s fame that the rper’s are all fighting over. If this is so, wouldn’t there be many fighters that will be famous? Perhaps, one from every participating world/plane of existence?
This is an almost limitless amount of famous fighters… but this may only apply to their own world. Say, a fighter is renowned in one world, but in the other world they might ask “who?”
Therefore, the tournaments would be to gain the fame of all the worlds that are in existence and alignment with the Abattoir itself.
Then, of course, the assassinations and treachery come into play. If they are to be reckoned as a famous fighter, wouldn’t they have to murder or stage an unfair tournament against the fighters from the other worlds to gain fame in that world, and, therefore, a little more to the ultimate goal?
Of course, I’m looping a hole around myself in saying that guilds are too over-used in rp’s, but this is a different version of guilds. Instead of little groups that follow a certain type of rule or whatnot, why not have the worlds themselves as guilds? A vast variety of abilities and talents to draw upon….
I’m not entirely sure what the hell I’m implying here… because I’m currently slightly high due to a very rigorous physics lesson (yes, I attend school >.<)

erm... so the rp will not be going forth?

I too would like to know if you're going to do this or not.
