...Damn, now you guys made me lose my "Same Planet" train of thought.

BMHadoken 12-06-2003 04:37 PM

It isnt, dont worry your little head.

Dante Reborn 12-06-2003 04:42 PM

I'm sure of it... Let me see if I can find world maps somewhere...

Dante Reborn 12-06-2003 04:48 PM

Okay, now that I've seen the maps at the same time, less sure. The only thing I got goin' for my theory is that whole "Shifting Continents" thingamajig.

BMHadoken 12-06-2003 04:56 PM

Do you know how many millions of years that takes?

Joe Falco 12-06-2003 05:02 PM

It only took a while for Kefka to shift continents around!

>:^D

I enjoy my FF6. It's easily one of the best when it comes to story and its cinematic quality. FFV, IMO, the perfection of the job system that FFIII started.

Actually a year at the most, since you're seeing through Celes' point of veiw and she's asleep for about a year so you can't see the changing world. ^^

Plus, since when to FFs have to make logical sense? I mean, why would beating battles without any magic at all help the character learn magic? (hehe I know, I'm just pulling that one out of nowhere)

^o^

IHateMakingNames 12-06-2003 06:28 PM

That's the system in FF2, you have to cast magic to level it, attack things to raise attack, be hit to raise HP and defense, and things like that(I think...)

Raiden 12-06-2003 06:35 PM

I liked FF8 a lot. I only had one problem with it. The magic system. Having to draw magic from your enemies, and when you were out of the magic, you were out until you found a draw point with it or found a monster that had it. Give me MP points and set spells anyday.

Exploding Ostrich 12-06-2003 07:19 PM

My main thought when I was playing FF8 was "I wish Zell were the main character". Squall was just nauseating.

Agreed. That's the only main problem with FF8. If it were the classic set spells, then it would be much better. Still, can't blam them for trying something new. And I don't see why so many people hate Squall; I think he's pretty cool.

Raerlynn 12-06-2003 08:19 PM

FF1 - Tried the beginning, lost interest fast
FF2 - Never played
FF3 - Never played
FF4 - Beat it repeatedly, loved it a lot
FF5 - Beat it. Hated it.
FF6 - Got to Kefka's Tower, then lost the ROM and Save to a virus
FF7 - Beat it, on PC no less, the buggy piece of crap that it was, but loved the game itself.
FF8 - Beat it, my favorite to date.
FF9 - Got about mid disc 2 and lost interest after pounding Lifa Tree into the dust
FF10 - Got past Yunalesca, never found time to play again
FF11 - Never played it
FF12 - Never played it
FFMQ - Got me into the FF series. Excellent game, even if only for little ones
FFT - Sweet game, but it irked me that the best characters in the game would eventually replace those that you worked hard to raise
FFTA - Playing it, Good game, but very pissed right now. Lost the battle to Adremmalech (3rd totem) when he was at 18Hp, because MARCHE GOT IMPRISONED ON A COPYCAT TECHNICALITY!!!! ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

BMHadoken 12-06-2003 09:40 PM

Yah...I hate those stupid laws...

And everybody hates FF8 becuz it basically killed everything good about the FF series, then raped the corpse...and Squall seemed to be in a constant battle to whine and be a girly man throughout the entire game...I liked the opening sequence, him and Seifer battling, bitchin...

IHateMakingNames 12-06-2003 09:44 PM

If you hate Squall, how can you not hate Tidus?

BMHadoken 12-06-2003 09:45 PM

Who says I didn't, Squall is just worst...

KefkaTaran 12-07-2003 02:45 AM

Squall was just too realistic for most people to take in. All of FF8 was based on a more real story, on the human level. More emotion... *shrugs*

Not that I enjoyed it that much.

Bezo 12-08-2003 07:13 AM

I have a question. It's about summons (and you nuts who think all the worlds are connected can have a field day with this).

The ice summon is always Shiva, the fire summon is always Ifrit, the water summon Leviathan, the kill-all death summon from hell is usually Bahamut...so why is it that the lightning summon changes all the time? Sometimes it's Ramuh, other times it's Ixion or Quezacotl.

What's up with that?

Oh, and here's my favourite/least favourite character listing for each game I've played to the end (I've played them all, but I haven't spent as much time on 2-6 as I would have liked.

I - Black Mage (8-bit Theatre's fault)/Black Belt (sucks)

VII - Barret (Mr. T!)/Sephiroth (extremely overrated despite having the coolest boss music ever)

VIII - Quistis (awesome, but bad taste in men)/Squall (embodiment of every "roleplaying asshole who thinks he's a loner" I've ever known)

IX - Steiner (I love a good clankin' German)/Necron (next time, make an appearance in the plot before the end of the game)

X - Rikku (I must love her, because I maxed out her Sphere Grid, gave her Break Damage Limit, Break HP Limit, Break MP Limit, Piercing, and Master Thief...mmmm...mug)/Jecht (I'm glad he wasn't my father)

X-2 - Rikku (she's so cute when she's chain hitting for 9999 damage)/Trema (I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!)

Krylo 12-08-2003 07:35 AM

I think I'm gonna do like Bezo, cause I like his idea here... and list off all my favorite/least favorite characters in the games I played. Which are all the ones released in the US, other than the re-releases (I have yet to pick up anthologies or anything like that), and the newest two (I also haven't gotten FFXI or FFX-2 yet).

FF1--Bahamut (just cause I like dragons)/All the heros (heros with no personality=bad)
FF4--Rydia (Gotta love the hair... and the little girl that changes the main map.)/Tellah (Leave Edgar alone ya bastard!)
FF6--Kefka (Run Run Run or you'll be well done!)/Gestahl (Stupid old man.)
FF7--Vincent (He was just cool.)/Aeris (Did she HAVE to go off on her own? She got her own dumb ass killed. Don't blame sephiroth for taking advantage of her stupidity.)
FF8--Seifer (Gotta love a guy who cuts down odin.)/Squall (Either be a loner or be a whiny bitch. You can't be both.)
FF9--Kuja (I love redeemable villians. And he had such great fashion sense too!)/Steiner (He was an idiot. Granted he slowly became less stupid... but in the beginning he was an idiot. He also had a shitty trance.)
FF10--Rikku (I just liked her. Plus, the Al Bhed have cool eyes.)/Wakka (He's stupid, he's ignorant, and he fights with a sports ball. What's not to hate?)

Mog 12-08-2003 08:04 AM

I like that after some tweaking in ff6 you can have terra cast any first level spell for 9,999 damage, usually without morphing, that is cool, I also like how some of the weapons in that game randomly unleash a spell after it attacks, that was neato

What i hate about the newer games ((the reason i like ff9)) is that doing 9,999 damage is no big deal even as early as level 40...wtf is up with that, in ff9, it took a long time to get a character able to do that much damage, which meant almost all of your attacks mattered, since not only did all of your attacks not do 9,999, you had very few attacks that did, spells were strong, you could holy some monster for a hell of a lot more damage than Zidane or Steiner could just whack them with a sword unless they used up almost all their abilitie slots on "monster type" killer abilities. I like the fact that i can finally blow people apart from the inside for more damage that i can hit their sheild for and maybe nick them on the face, i mean come on, im pretty sure your sword would break on a monster made of steel where a spell would at least do some damage

Bezo 12-08-2003 08:40 AM

Just wait until I Oversoul every fiend in FFX-2 and get the ultimate garment grid, which inflicts 99,999 damage every turn! Your pathetic 9,999 damage will bow before me! Mwahahahahahaha :bmage:

Or something.

BMHadoken 12-08-2003 04:10 PM

I'm hoping they stick with the 9999 cap for FF12...just seems more right somehow...

IHateMakingNames 12-08-2003 04:13 PM

The higher damage you can do, the higher HP the enemies have, ending up to be the same anyway, so it doesn't matter. If you rather see yourself doing 999,999 damage to a thing with 999,999,999,999 HP, or doing 100 damage to a thing with 100,000 then oh well

MageOfIndiscriminateEvil 12-08-2003 04:46 PM

I think it may be that fact that i picked up FF when 7 hit PS but ive always found 7 to be the best one in my mind. I really liked the way the story unravelled with cloud's messed up memories and stuff.

8 was kinda a let down for me after 7, not that it was an unenjoyable game it just the changes they made to the magic/stats system really got to me. You were basically weakening yourself if you ever used your magic which led to me just using attacks with the biggest str boosting spell junctioned at all times

9 was a change because if was more like the older games (which i played later) where it is very hard to hit the damage cap. I didn't particularly like the story but the characters were pretty good GO VIVI!!!

when i played 10 to me it was the best since 7 it seemed to do pretty well in most things, although the most distinguishable thing was how graphically intense the game was. Although the sphere grid was crying out for abuse. Turning Yuna into a fighter as powerful as Auron can get seems kinda wrong. I was good how everyone was unique at the start, but by the end since everyone got every skill it was basically choose yuna because she can summon and tidus and wakka becuase they have the highest multi-hit attacks.

Since then i have gone back to play the old school games. I found the job system in 5 to be great and am looking forward to picking up my copy of X-2 to see how well they have applied it.

6 was a really good game and i can see why people like it. But for me 7 will always hold the place as the best FF. PLus i really did not like kefka. He dressed like a clown and I found his end of game boss fight too easy. I know 10 was quite possibly the easiest yu yevon can easily be killed in one hit... but FF 10 had a truckload of optional bosses that where a challenge to beat. 6 didn't have enough side quest stuff for me...

I just started playing 4 and its really annoying me how high the random encounter rate is. Im really getting sick of getting into a fight after taking 1 or 2 steps in a dungeon. Anyone want to help me with this?

Finally the only spin off game i played was FFTA for GBA. At first it was pretty fun but the game was just way too easy. Once you have damage mp you basically can't die and with double sowrd you can kill most people one attack. Then theres the mogknight/gunner 8 square ultima attack... Pus getting the good items was too dependent on you getting steal ability/weapon really early in the game.

I know im mostly pointing out the bad points but aside for that annoying 4 i have found all the games to be great fun. Long live square!!!

Mashirosen 12-08-2003 09:56 PM

Derp, how did this get to be so long? Closing, feel free to start another if you'd like to.
