First game ever

What was the very first video game you played? I remember mine being Super Mario Bros. 3.

MasterOfMagic 08-04-2004 11:05 PM

I beleive that was mine as well. That or Zelda. Its really hard to remember since I was so little when I started.

Bedivere 08-04-2004 11:07 PM

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for the NES

Best. Game. Ever.

redbead 08-04-2004 11:39 PM

My first video game was Dig Dug... It's still my favorite game that involves explosions and digging...

MP37a 08-05-2004 12:02 AM

Asteroids or Donkey Kong not sure which.

Martyr 08-05-2004 12:06 AM

Super Mario Bros. Followed closely by Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, and Battle of Olympus.

All of them excellent games which ought to be played by everybody!

Windrift-RPG 08-05-2004 12:25 AM

Mine was good ol' Super Mario Brothers.

KefkaTaran 08-05-2004 02:23 AM

This thread has been done. And I know that's a cliche thing to say, and I usually avoid saying it, but this time I feel compelled to because it's not only been done... it's been done at least once or twice in the past month or so.

That said: my first game, I think, was Super Mario Bros for the NES. Or Link's Adventure. or one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games. Anyways, one of them!

Kenryoku_Maxis 08-05-2004 03:56 AM

Slight variation of another thread already on the board but no matter.

My first game was some Atari game I can't remember really well. But the first game I can remember playing was a REALLY old NES game where you're in space and you're kinda flying around on grids. I didn't know what I was doing but I was having fun at the age oif 2 or something.

RMS Oceanic 08-05-2004 08:13 AM

The first game I played? Commander Keen! He rocked!

The Smiling Assasin 08-05-2004 09:44 AM

Donkey Kong on the Commadore 64!

Carnivore 08-05-2004 11:47 AM

I think it was Super Mario Brothers 1, for the NES, but I do have distant memories of a game... It had a big sea urchin-ish thing. It mighta been Zelda.

Densetsu 08-05-2004 12:20 PM

something like pong or space invaders on my brothers Commodore 64

first game that was mine was Mario Bros. 1/Duck hunt on that faithful Xmas morning soo long ago =P

Slackbot 08-05-2004 12:33 PM

Some bottom-shooter on the Atari 2600 back when the 2600 was shiny and new. How mesmerized we used to be by a few blocky shapes!

Muffin Mage 08-05-2004 12:51 PM

DUCK HUNT!!!!!! :D That was the coolest game ever! Nothing can beat it!

slightly aboveaverage man 08-05-2004 01:39 PM

Ocean City defender, then Keystone Kapers, then California Games. All for the Atari!

WOOT!

CheshireThief 08-05-2004 03:52 PM

Pitfall for Atari. WOOT!

Myst 08-05-2004 03:55 PM

My first game was Bad Dudes for the NES, or Contra, also NES, both were made doable by the wonder that is the Konami code.

I searched this kind of thread before actually posting it and found only First Game You've Ever Beaten. I put down First Game You Ever Played. If it was done in the past month or so, then I would have known about it.

KefkaTaran 08-05-2004 08:15 PM

I dunno, I could swear it's been done recently, but it's probably like Kenryoku said, where there's been a couple recently that are extremely similar (First Game you Beat, like you mentioned, What Got You Into Gaming, etc.). *shrugs* Doesn't really bother me too much or I wouldn't've answered the question. :P

Kawigi 08-05-2004 08:52 PM

I don't know specifically what the first game was, but I know it was for Atari 2600, years before the NES came out. I remember we had at least Pacman, Missile Command, Asteroids, Warlords and Pitfall. Likely one of those.

Slacker 08-05-2004 09:01 PM

That was my first game I actually enjoyed. My very first game, however, was some game called "Ecomaster" or something where you ran around picking up trash. I played this when I was three or four, so I'm not too keen on the details, but I remember wandering around wondering what to do. Oh, another old game I remember playing was a similair game called "Manhole." Pretty much that other game, except minus the trash-picking-up. Just wandering around.

AndyBloodredMage 08-05-2004 10:37 PM

Wasn't this identical thread created a couple weeks ago?

At any rate, my first game was Super Mario Bros. 3 as well.

Sorry if I'm being frank/offensive.

Sephiroth Mage 08-06-2004 03:23 PM

mine was either Pokemon red or FF6, any memory below the age of 10 is too hazy for me to know for sure.

The_Bear 08-07-2004 02:19 AM

Super Mario World, it came with the SNES me and my brother got for Christmas. Co-op was intense, for back in the day anyway.

In Hindsight 08-08-2004 02:39 AM

The very first Carmen Sandiego game, which I played on an ancient IBM PS/2 clone (64kb of RAM might be giving it a bit too much credit). It was that, or some other equally craptastic educational game.

The first console games I played were Rad Racer and SMB.

Peo 08-08-2004 03:47 AM

hmm, well, it was probably some 2600 game, most likely E.T. *shudder*, but the first I remember was either mario or duck hunt, cant remember which was first, since they had that double game cartridge.

AlphaMofo 08-09-2004 09:27 AM

LEGENDARY WINGS! for the Nes.
if you've never heard of it, download the rom. it's so worth your time.

Wolf99x 08-09-2004 09:35 AM

SMB1/Duck Hunt (dual cartridge) got me hooked on video games when I was 3. That was quickly followed by Maniac Mansion, SMB2...and Wolfenstien 3D. Then I started playing so many games it all blurred.

Outbounder 08-09-2004 12:23 PM

I'm not exactly sure if I got the order straight, so it was one of two things (either of which I was about 3 years old):

1.I got the SMB/Duck Hunt NES for Christmas. I couldn't play SMB at first, because I had to look at the controller (hey, I said I was three), so I played Duck Hunt

2. If this was first, it was only slightly before the Duck Hunt thing. I remember playing Combat(that's the one with the tanks right?) on Atari.

cross 08-09-2004 02:28 PM

I believe mine was lander for commodore 64? I am not sure I was pretty young. We had a counting game with bert and ernie and some sort of spaceship for the 2600 with its own special controller also. I know for sure my first NES game (that i owned and played) was Ducktales

Magic E-Mail Chicken 08-09-2004 02:32 PM

Wolfenstine for the PC. Yes, ive been shooting nazis sence i was five, but i dont own any M games. Ironic, no?

Outbounder 08-09-2004 07:01 PM

I don't think that's irony.

Brand 08-10-2004 12:30 AM

When you say video game does that include arcade games or are we strictly talking console systems?

The first thing I ever touched was the old sit down version of Space Invaders in an Arbys the day I saw Empire Strikes Back at the movies. I think I was 6...

After that, I'm pretty sure the first console game I played was Football on the Atari 2600.

KefkaTaran 08-10-2004 12:34 AM

Brand: I'd say it generally includes any arcade, console, or computer games. Most conversations on these forums do unless noted otherwise.

Brand 08-11-2004 01:28 AM

Old Atari BS...

Ah, OK... Well, it would have been like 1981 or 1982. It's difficult for me to remember if I played Football at my "rich" next-door-neighbor's house first or if it was Space Invaders. I remember gettine my own Atari 2600 shortly some time after. I got the worst game of all time with it... ET. Jesus, what an awful game. At some point, I got a game called Earthworld. It came with it's own little comic and it was sort of a puzzle game involving the Zodiac. Clues to the puzzle were in a little comic book that came with the game. I remember trying valiantly to solve them but I only had Earthworld and some of the comic clues were for the sequels to the game.. Fireworld, Waterworld, etc.... Anyone ever play that or beat it?

I'm just curious... That one kind of hung with me.
