Origins or NES?
I just tried out the playstation version of Final Fantasy 1 and 2, a.k.a. Final Fantasy Origins. I wanted to know what do you guys prefer, the good ol' NES or the remade Playstation version (there aren't too many differences, but still)?

I declare that you are the Devil. Only the Devil would have me make such a choice...
How can I possibly make this choice when I am so torn up on the issue? The new gamer in me enjoys the removal of ineffective attack, colorful new sprites and backgrounds, simple story additions, and new, beautiful remixes of my favorite tunes. However, the old gamer in me cringes at the imp being called a goblin, pines for the old character designs which had beauty in their simplicity, laughs at the easy mode, and misses the great feelings he felt when playing the original FF with a single Black Belt. So I say, tempt me not O' Satan. I shall not take part in your vile, twisted games of amusement... |
I'll have to go with Origins, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: While Final Fantasy did manage to save SquareSoft, it still was a pretty shotty game, many of the spells didn't do what they should of, and buying potions... my god that sucked. The translation was pretty lame too. (although they really should have kept the knock you all down line in Origins)
That's why I choose Origins, coupled with the fact that you can still have the ineffective attack option and whatnot, it clearly is a superior game. |
It's hard for me to decide tho....just too hard....i wish they also remade the NES FF3 too.

Orgins here. Why go with old, crappy looking, slow game when you can have new, good looking, fast game?
|
I did vote for origins. But, the old ones are classics, which is why i like them too, as in 8-bit, what nuklearpower is based on!

The Wonderswan Color version, but only if you turn off auto-targeting and whatnot.
|
I stick to FFO. If you keep it on normal mode with no auto-targeting, it's basically the same game with better sound, better visuals and no broken spells.
My NES copy is strictly archival now, since I ended up stumbling onto a complete box/map/manual set last year. Now if I could only figure out how to use the shrink-wrap machine at work effectively enough to duplicate the horizontal seal on the back.... |
Actually, FFO has twice the boss HP, IIRC.

I got the original final fantacy, with the black cartrage, but I can't remember how far I got. I think I got the airship, but never beat the game.
In any case, I played the original, and so feel no need to play it again all fancy-fied. |
