Football, anyone?
 

While I have noticed, from the introduction threads, that many people in the forums have no bounds on their hatred for sports, who here likes watching the NFL? I, for one, am an ardent football follower(and watch it when I can). What do you think of the upcoming Sunday for football? One of the most exciting I can think of in at least the last couple of years. We have
Titans v. Colts
Eagles v. Cowboys
Ravens v. Bengals
Pats v. Dolphins

Who do you pick will win these games? I like the Titans, Eagles, Ravens, and Pats. Somewhat faceiously I made the prediction of Pats and Eagles in the Super bowl way back in week 5 and I'm sticking to it. Any thoughts?

Finding football fans on this board could be pretty difficult. A lot of these folks are gamers and roleplayers, and by design, competitive sports are for big hairy men with beer bellies. I am, however, a huge NFL fan! :)

It's been an up and down year. My NY Giants have been pretty embarrasing to watch. There are a lot of other great stories this year. The Chiefs are a fun team to watch, and what about those first place Bengals? Unbelievable. All four of those matchups you listed have major potential to shake up the playoff race, mosty because they're all divisional rivalries.

I like the Colts over the Titans (McNair's been in pain)., the Eagles beating the overhyped Cowboys, the Ravens over the Bengals (88 combined points in two weeks under their new QB) and the Pats over the Dolphins cuz uhh, well, I don't have a good reason. :)

It would probably be a miracle if someone else replied to this thread without an anti-football message. :)

Gotta pick my Cowboys. They have been really surprising this year, and I believe they have a chance against the Eagles even now that Philly has figured out they are good.

Yeah, I sorta figured that it would be a low turnout on this thread, but sometimes you get surprised, so maybe there are a few more out there. I'm a die-hard Eagles fan myself, and I'm really hopeing that this is their year. It would be rather ironic if they even get to the super bowl this year, since they seem to win when all the stats indicate that they shouldn't.

As far as the giants go, do you think Fassel is back next year? If not, who will(or you who do you want to) replace him?

As far as the beer-bellied hairy football fan, those who are ignorant enough to buy into that stereotype, should think about how many believe that roleplayers are only sickly, immature boys, who stay in their parents basement all the time.

P.S. You probably don't get see many giants games (or fans for that matter) out in San Fran.

I don't really get into football enough to really pick a team to root for, but if there's a game on, and I have nothing else to do, I'll end up watching it. I tend to find watching it on TV to be rather dull. Duller than baseball in a lot of cases (I prefer baseball anyway, though, so I may be biased here).

As unbiased as I can be (although I've already admitted I'm an Eagles fan), I really think that the Eagles will win on Sunday because
1) I think teams are catching up to Dallas because their smallish defense is wearing out as the season goes on.

2) The Eagles are playing their best football of the season, and they were even close to defeating the 'Boys earlier in the season when the Eagles weren't at their best (*mumble* *mumble* stupid onside *mumble* kickoff *mumble*)

3) I think that Quincy Carter is finally coming off of cloud nine and realizing that he is an average QB that can throw it deep.

4) Brian Dawkins and Bobby Taylor are going to be healthy and ready to go next week.

Prediction: Eagles 24 Cowboys 20

I think a lot of it is how you are brought up. While I played baseball for 10 years in little league, I find watching it pretty boring until it gets late in the season (and the fact that the Phillies most years stink). On the other hand, it has sorta been a tradition that my dad and i(while I still lived with my parents) watched the Eagles play on Sunday. I guess it sorta just stuck with me.

I watch a lot more college football than NFL... mostly because my Lions are terrible. *sigh*

But I'm in a Fantasy Football league, so I do follow the action. That being said:

Colts over the Titans: Manning has just been awesome lately, and the defense tends to do just enough to get them to win. The Titans running attack is hurt by the ineffective Eddie George, making them kind of one dimensional.

Eagles over Cowboys: I agree with Chrono_Traveller's thoughts on this one. The Cowboys look like they've been figured out, and there was really no way that Quicy Carter could keep up what he was doing. The Eagles have looked so much better since the first couple of weeks of the season.

Bengals over the Ravens: Bengals have just been hot. I really think that Baltimore is the better team, but the Bengals have just been playing so well lately. I think this one will be close.

Patriots over the Dolphins: After seeing the Pats on Sunday against the Colts, how could I pick the Dolphins? The Pats defense is awesome. The only thing I don't like about them is that their offense is one dimensional. They have virtually no running attack, leaving it all up to Brady (a fellow U of M grad, I might add ;)). Still, I have to take them over the Dolphins.

Just my... well, dollar worth of thoughts, I guess.

Now here's something rare: a girl football fan in this forum!!

Go Titans!!! I'm not from Tenessee, but after watching Canadian Football for most of my life, I got into the NFL really quick.

Titans/Colts- Titans (all the way baby)
Eagles/Cowboys- Close, but Eagles
Ravens/Bengals- Bengals, when you're hot, you're hot.
Dolphins/Pats- Pats, although the Dolphins are due for a win.
