GameCube Problems

Racently, my GameCube has been giving me a "The Game Disc could nto be read. Please read the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for more information." error randomly through games. I've tried it on several games and I've gotten this error, so I know it's not the game.

Since I don't know where my Booklet is, I can't consult that. Anyone else who had this problem know how to fix it, and why it's happening? Or am I screwed?

Never had that problem.

You should call the Nintendo Service department. They should take it back for repairs, and for free.

However, what's more likely to happen is that they would forget about it, lose your Gamecube, then dissavow any knowledge of it.

Keep in mind I don't know jack about the GameCube, but my first guess with that problem in CD-operated systems would be that the lens needs cleaning. Assuming I'm not sorely mistaken about the GC's mechanics, have you tried that?

Or wait... is that more "randomly selected games don't start up" or more "the error can occur anyplace, anytime?"

IHateMakingNames 08-10-2004 12:33 PM

The error can occur anyplace, anytime. The games start, but at some point in the game (Usually a place where loading is needed, like entering a new area or opening a door, but not always) the error shows up.

And I would clean the lens, but I don't really know how. It's just a small piece of concaved glass slightly under the game disk place.

The only advice I can give you is to clean the games. I've gotten that message a couple of times too, and after cleaning the game, it worked fine. Maybe they're scratched.

I can see no scratches on the games. And I have washed the games the proper way (Wet cloth, from middle to ends of disc, dry and wait, just like the Nintendo site says to) and the error still happens. Tales of Symphonia tends to run a little longer before the errors show up after washing, but I think that's just luck.

Maybe your just screwed, i say complain to nintendo till they decide to give you a new one.

They have special kits for lence cleaning. I had the same problem, but I was lazy and just went to Wal*Mart and traded it for a new one. My guess is your just got unlucky and some derbis hit just the wrong spot. If you have some compressed air might wanna give it a light spray first. If that doesn't work get a kit

IHateMakingNames 08-10-2004 01:27 PM

A light spray?

I got that error once, we cleaned the disk carefully and put it back in, never happened again.
