Does anyone know a good play?

My old school's drama group is looking for something to perform. They did try to stick me with the duty of writing one, but given that it's only a month from now before they regroup after the summer holiday, that might be just a little tight.

Specifications:

- the play should have about 10 roles (4 male, 6 female)
- the specialty of the group is performing satire and comedy, so it should be neither too serious nor too shallow
- scenes that require anyone to undress* are a no-no, but more "mature" issues can be considered (we did have some... sensuality... on stage more than once)
- as few scene changes as possible, the stage is dirt cheap

- a female lead is wished for
- as is pairing two of the guys in comic roles (since they're pretty much soulmates and simply have to be on stage together)

If anyone can think of something, do not hesitate to speak up. If I don't come with at least a suggestion in a month, they're gonna kill me. :)

*By which I mean to the point of showing genitals

I have tons of good ones, but there is the small problem of copyright...

Astrid Lingren's Veljeni Leijonamieli is a good play and it would match most of your requests, but it's not a comedy.

"The Brothers Lionheart," eh? It does sound pretty good, but somehow I doubt if those specific actors would be all that enthusiastic about it. (Plus, it has the pairing, but imagining those two guys I spoke of doing that cracks me up somewhat fierce :D) Still, you never know, and I don't want to dismiss it right away. Gotta ask around.

And don't worry, if we can do a Woody Allen play without copyright issues, we can do anything. Lay it on me.

NO! The Whores of MENSA! It's the coolest play ever! I think it's also a Woody Allen play, but I'm not sure.

Didn't think you'd know it. Well I was wrong. It would make a good play.

Try "The Foreigner" by Larry Shue. It's one of the funniest plays I have ever seen. Our college theatre group did that my first semester. I think it would meet most of your criteria.

I've written plays, but the most roles I've had is three.

I don't really know what to suggest, does it have to be a play someone else has written or couldn't you write your own?

A couple of the Discworld novels (by Terry Pratchett) have been converted to plays. The ones that I know of off hand that have been converted are:
Wyrd Sisters (which, amongst other things, parodies Hamlet and Macbeth)
Mort

I'm pretty sure that others have been converted as well, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Try a quick web search.

Pratchett's stories are very good, and often very funny. I'm not sure about the number of roles, but Wyrd Sisters has three female leads.

I would recommend that you at least check these out.

Ho-ly crap. That would be perfect; not necessarily for the actors, but for me. I love Pratchett's work, but I didn't know there were stage adaptions.

One quick search later... it seems even translating the stuff yourself is allowed. I'm a translator. I'm quick. The drama group has a shitload of money to blow on royalties.

This suggests a certain course of action. Thaumaturge, deepest thanks. The others, keep it coming nonetheless. :)

My pleasure, Meister :). I hope the play goes well, whatever you choose to perform.
