the staircase seemed innocent enough, and it apparently went to the top of the building. The halogen lights were dim and blown out in spots, but the lighting was adequate to see the steps.
Caleb never trusted anything innocent. Too often it turned out to be facade. At least with something that was overtly dangerous you knew what was coming. Carefully pulling out his gun, he changed clips from shock shot to tranquilizer darts. He carefully stepped into the center of the staircase and swept them with is eyes for intruders.
Ocius followed Caleb up the stairs carefully ready to sprint back down at any moment. It occured to him that letting the ghost lead might have been a good ideal.
As the group made their way up the staircase, the creeking noises of each step echoed like gunshots through the stagnant air. Carefully, they reached the thirteenth floor, and stopped in front of the staircase entrance to the hallway.
Caleb put his hand on the door nobb and held his gun ready. "Okay, hows this sound. I'll open the door and determine if there are any hostiles on the other side. David, as our resident immortal, you take point. Ocius and I will cover you. Sound good?"
"If only it were that simple... OK, lets go." he sounded as if he'd rather not, as if such an action held a risk for him. What risk is there for a dead man? Thats a strange question...
"That sound fine to me," he said then a strange thought occured to him. "Um David do bullets stop when the hit you or go straight through? Cause if they do I might as well take point." He shifted his weigth a little as one of his legs began to fall asleep.
David couldn't help but laugh out loud, he'd never met people who could take his uniqueness in stride like these men. Most never knew he was a ghost, as most never had the time to figure it out. Those who did were often shaken for days afterwards, these two had found out a few minutes ago and were already joking about it, at least it seemd that way. Even if the question was serious, there seemed to be an understanding which he hadn't seen in many years.
"It doesn't matter whether I stop bullets or not, there is no one on the other side of this door." he said matter of factly and then casually opened the door. The room was clean, at least compared to the rest of the building, there were a few amenities scatterd throughout, a small food prep device, an inflatable mattress, a portable shower, a refrigerator and various computer devices. true to Davids claim, there appeared to be no one present in the small studio. A cup of coffee was left on the floor, steam still rising from its half consumed contents. Near the single window was an odd looking device, it had a data readout and a keyboard attached to it, as well as some sort of optical device facing out the window. The window was open, allowing cold air to stream in from the streets. Other than their own shuffling footsteps the room was silent. |
Seeing the empty room Ocius began to run possible events through his head. One thing came up the most and that was they should leave this room and building as quickly as possible. Turning to the other two he said, "It may be a good ideal for us to leave, at least for a little while, before something blows up or a trap is sprung. That is unless you two can see something I can't."
Caleb quickly scanned the room for anything hidden.
ooc: do I see anything? Sorry for such a short post after a long time, I didn't see that the thread had been updated, and now am at a loss for answers. |
