Card Captor Sakura?
Well, I'm asking about the Manga, so I guess this might go in the comics forum, but I figured more people who knew about this stuff would be in the animation forum. Mods can move it if they like.
Anyway, my birthday was Friday, and everyone gave me money. I, of course, wish to spend it, and I was thinking about getting the Card Captor Sakura mangas. But I wasn't sure If they were any good. Comments? Oh, and since this is in the Animation forum, go ahead and talk about the anime too. They are pretty much the same thing anyways. |
In my opinion, CCS isn't worth a buy. I like CLAMP's art, but not a whole lot more than that. The series is a little girlish for my tastes. Besides, I remember one of my friends mention she'd found a site with all of the books scanned and translated into English. If you can find it, don't bother buying.

Well, I'd rather buy it if I'm going to read it. Case and point: I bought the first two Megatokyo books that are out, and am going to pick up the third one once its released. Its nice to help out the artist, if only a little bit.

ok I only saw the anime and it was awhile ago. But I read a decent amount of manga. In my opinion you can do better.
Get a Yu-Gi-Oh, or Bleach, or a nice Naruto |
If you want to read a manga with Sakura in it, go for Tsubasa. It's brand new, by clamp, and it crosses over a lot of their series, (in an alternate universe-type thing, so you don't have to worry about being lost if you haven't read chobits or XXXholic.) It's a VERY good series, but not many of them are out yet.
If I were to suggest a manga, I would suggest Demon Diary. A great manga all around. |
not to be rude and I might be wrong, but I dont think thats the Sakura he ment
|
Well, if you're asking me then I say...
"Yes, of course, you crazy!?" But really, that's only because CCS (CardCaptor Sakura) is one of my top 3 if not my favorite Anime. I only have 2 of the Manga, but I really like them as well. But this is just my opinion. If you really want to know, I don't think asking here is going to produce a favorable responce. To put it bluntly, not many people I see in this forum like the 'type' of show CCS is. That being a show with a child star dealing with Magic and kid like qualities and how she grows up, learns how to control all the cards and on the way tries to live a normal life (yes, a romantic story also comes along later on). But if you're willing to give it a chance, I guarantee you on my entire collection of Anime that CCS will be nothing like anything you have seen before and nothing like you invision it to be. Whither you think its bad or good if you see it, you will still have to acknowledge (sp) that it took a large collection of different types of shows (magic 'shoujo'/drama/love/light comedy/etc.) and made every aspect of each of the types of shows different than any show you have seen since. So, there's my review that in no way does it justice. But to tell you any more would ruin the shw because, frankly, in order to explain any more, I would have to explain the characters and plot because they are so different than any other shows formula. And if you're going to watch the Anime sometime (highly recommended), don't watch the dub. Not just my anti-dub stuff talking, but the Dub was severely edited dispite its highly noted bad voices. They changed the star of the show to the main male lead, changed the shows title to 'Card Captors' (hence making Li the main character), took out half the first season and the whole second season because they were trying to make Li the star instead of Sakura and then.....well, you get the idea. Its not CCS anymore. Its a show that was once completely original to everything else which a company edited till it became a formula similar to shows in America of its 'type'. Oh yeah, and you just can't replace Kero-chan's voice. He's just too funny in his small form and then he takes on the voice of Vash from Trigun in his big form. ----- Oh yeah, and Tsubasa is great! I finished CCS a long time ago so I've been wanting more. Yes, 3 seasons and 2 amazing movies didn't even remotely fill my appetite for this great show, kind of like Slayers. But I'd suggest reading the Manga or seeing the Anime for alot more CLAMP works before reading Tsubasa, because they are transporting to all the different dimensions that all the other CLAMP Mangas take place. I've only read 2 books and I'm already lost.....and I've seen like 4 CLAMP shows and read 2 CLAMP Manga series... |
I suggest getting it. I only saw a few epsiodes of the anime, and I liked it. Except for the whole "re-running the same damn episode" thing. I just quit after that.
I need to find a new comic/manga shop around here, my old one closed. The only other one with a decent selection requires a car, which I do not have. |
well the show was ok. I didn't mind it, though the show didn't start getting good till later after she got all the cards. Though it did become abit dramatic for my taste but had good plot advancement. I just think there are better ones. Then again I never read the manga myself but many manga turn into the story board and script of anime so I assume it is for the most part the same.
Though it did get abit too girly for my taste esspecially early on. Of course it was on WB so if I had to guess half the show was edited |
For the animated show, I heard there's two mutilated versions floating about (for western audiences, I think), altough those might only be for tv. I saw the one of the two that's considered "restored", but the editing was still somewhat apparent.
I was surprised when I got pulled into that show. The plot moves too slowly in parts, but even that wasn't so bad. Edit: Kenryoku, sorry about not reading the part of your post about the editing, but as far as I can see it doesn't note the second, revised edition (for one I didn't know they had butchered it that badly) |
