Deleting posts

on TWC a deleted post was sitll visable with the deletion reason. can we get that feature on this board? i jsu tdelted an off topic post of mine in the discussion forum... but it left no trace, so the thread just looks confusing since you dont realize there WAS somehting there.

just a thought

There's the option there... and I swear that it worked for me before, but now? Not so much.

I can see them all. I asked Pierre if it was possible to make it so users can delete their own posts, but not topics. Is that the case?

it seems to be the case, seeing as i can't delete this thread, nor my firs tpost in it.

but my issue was that, after deleting a post in a thread, there is NO evidence that it was EVER there. so, you know, peopel get the "i coulda sworn he said something. i know i didnt jsu trandomly reply to nothing" confusion.

Viper, do you mean that you can see the 3 or 4 deleted posts I made and my little "why I deleted this" blurb? Because I know I sure can't.

Viper Daimao 12-10-2003 11:41 AM

"Yo man it's already here"
"It says that this should work"

It's because we're moderators, whereas you're regular users. Mods can see the deletions. Users can't. My guess is because mods have the option to undelete or entirely purge posts. It might be unhelpful to give all users that authority. :B

Can't there be the option for users to see the reason why something was deleted, even without having the option to undelete or purge? Just to aleviate any "wtf"'s that might happen as a cause of somebody deleting something, especially when someone else commented on it.

I think a lot of times if a mod deletes a thread, its for a reason... and I do believe they would PM the cause of the thread deletion to the thread starter / the problem of the thread... Usually tho if someone causes a problem on a thread the post is deleted and theyre warned or banned. Whichever applies...

I think what DZ and the others mean is when you delete your own posts, and it prompts you for a reason, and you put one in. In the old forums it would show up as a little snippet saying "Post Deleted: I'm a moron" or something like that, which helped to stop confusion when people delete posts. That way everyone would know there was a post there and wouldn't get confused by people seeming to talk about/quote things that aren't happening in that thread.
