Pokemon: The MMORPG? Version 2.0
It seems IGN has made an effort to extend what I've been saying for quite a while now, to the point that they are actually putting a full 'front page' article to make an allusion to the idea of a Pokemon MMORPG.
http://cube.ign.com/articles/544/544508p1.html The article is pretty interesting, obviously giving the basic views of how Pokemon in itself is already the ultimate 1 Player MMORPG and how it should be transversed into the true MMORPG format. But it also goes somewhat more in-depth, giving lots of ideas how the Pokemon franchise could be vastly expanded by doing so and how Nintendo could even make the game more interesting beyond just leveling the pokemon and competing in tournaments. Its a very interesting read and I am glad they wrote it because it might just be something that could give the people at Nintendo a quick kick in the pants to go 'hey, maybe we should make it like that after all." Knowing full well that Nintendo and Game Freak has thought of this idea already, I just hope maybe this might be another step for them thinking of really doing it. So, read it if you have some time. |
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh no. I can't even picture a Pokemon MMORPG at the point they're going in.
Although....it could be fun. I don't know, I gotta see or play this for myself when and if it does come out. |
Brain meats......hurting, can't comprehend stupidity, pokemon........dead,hackers, million mewthreequadrillions

If Nintendo was maintaining a server for an MMORPG, there would be a LOT less hackers and ability to hack than on current MMORPG servers.
Note, I didn't say there wouldn't be any, just that there wold be alot less. Nintendo would probably have just more people working on the server than there are people who run all of Everquest or Diablo II or something. And They'd have more people just checking for bugs then there are working on the ENTIRE staff for RO. -_- And trust me.....MewTwo probably wouldn't be given out to anyone. I bet you he'd probably be used by the head of the Elite Four. But they'd have some way for you to be able to beat him with other Pokemon. Dude...I thought of a great Idea. Have the 'Elite Four' be all people who are controlled by some major Pokemon orginization (whatever that orginization is that makes all the Pokemon stuff in the games) and that's why the last guy on the Elite Four has a MewTwo....cuz in the Anime for Pokemon, MewTwo is suppose to be made y the company from the genes of Mew (which by the way, in an MMORPG they should allow you to find Mews, but either not catch them or make it VEEEERY hard like needing an item for it or having to use a certain Pokemon to keep it from running away). |

Well, the point is they wouldn't give you a MewTwo because MewTwo is over-powered. Just the last person on the Elite Four would use one because he's a jerk like that. But it would be pumped with steroids and not as good as some other Pokemon which if you level to 99 without Steroids would be better.

well, pokemon Blue was a great rpg in my opinion, mostly cuz of nostalgia from playing it obsessivly when i was little. i dont know how id feel about a pokemon MMORPG though, i probably wouldnt get it cuz my friends didnt get into pokemon and think its the dumbest thing ever

There's just one minor hitch.
The majority of MMO subscribers are in the 18+ demographic. The majority of Pokemon fans are in the 14- demographic. They can't legally possess credit cards, and I would say it's extremely dubious that their parents would support a subscription for their kid in any case. Even if it did somehow get off the ground, it would end up succumbing to the age-old MMO traps of cash-farmers/campers, PKers and other such manners of devaluing the overall MMO experience. While it might sound good on paper, and it might mesh well with the general gameplay concept, in the case of Pokemon, the target user base plays a huge part. The bottom line is, the average parent will never be convinced that dropping $10-15/month on a Pokemon game for their kids is worth the investment. Think about it for a moment, and it'll make sense. Why would a responsible parent devote money every month to a timesink that distracts their child from schoolwork and other activities that are quite frankly more important and more rewarding? It makes approximately zero sense. In my opinion, it is too big a risk factor for Nintendo to attempt to bank on. |
well, im 13, and i pay for all my MMORPGs. My mom just takes it out of my allowance.

I like the ideas that the writer has, although the whole server thing would be REALLY ambitious. So is the constant script-writer deal. Cool, but rather impossible to pull off without considerable work.
I like how its more about the actual interaction between the player and the Pokemon, instead of the usual stat-based grind. |
