Small discussion for new big rp.

Okies, I’m kinda new to actually starting an RP of my own, so I’m mulling a concept over in this thread, and if enough people are interested (say, 5 min, 20 max) I’ll start it.

The age is set in a varying scape, where three adjoining and intricately woven dimensions have broken away from the larger complex webbing of possible planes of existence, causing complete destruction of peace and stability within the relationships of the planes, thus resulting in an incomplete melding of all three planes.
The inhabitants of all three planes are vastly different, ranging from strangely abstract aliens and mythical beasts to the human race.
The first few decades that ensued after the melding of planes was of absolute chaos, with every race vying for dominance over other races. Epic battles between each race were recorded down in each race’s history.
It wasn’t until a century after “the Melding” that four dominant races rose above the rest, their advanced technology and magic overpowering most of the other races. These were the races: Human, Anthromorphs, Shapeshifters and the Quadrupedal Intelligence (centaurs and other four-legged/human beings). The smaller races, defeated, faded into the wildlife and sometimes were eliminated completely.
These four races set up shaky alliances that allowed for trade and a similar justice system.

It is about a two centuries after the Treaty of the Races has been set down, and there is a new threat to an otherwise technically peaceful plane. Beasts of unknown origin have been sighted, exhibiting strange, inhuman intelligence. Most are non-threatening, melting into the shadows when approached, but occasionally, reports of town massacre by these strange beasts have disturbed the High Council of the four races (twelve elders, three from each race)
Their peace threatened, the four races must put aside small disputes and racial prejudice to face an amassing army of hoard upon hoards of these creatures that call themselves the “Centi”

I might as well put down some of the characteristics of the four Races. There are also minor races that have been accepted into the overall alliance, and do small trade with the larger powers.

Four Races:
Human: jack-of-all trades. Humans are flexible in what they learn, and have the most advanced technology, due to their curiosity of the world around them. Only having a short lifetime of less than a hundred years, they learn quickly. However, their skill with magic is slightly behind all other races. Humans are famed throughout the plane because of their tendencies to interbreed with other races and produce hybrids that exhibit powers of both races.

Anthromorphs: Human in appearance, but with additional animal characteristics and abilities. Anthromorphs may have the physical shape of a human, but may display wings, tails, or have facial features of a beast. They also possess the reflexes of their reflected creature counterpart, some of them able to change willingly from human to ‘feral’ shape. The anthromorphs are closely related to the human race, but also exhibit connections with the shapeshifter race. Although their technology may not be that advanced, they make it up with their inhuman abilities and a stronger ability to master magic.

Shapeshifters: when somebody can’t decide on what they want to be. Shapeshifters are the most mysterious of all four races, owing to their tendency to come in all shapes and sizes. Excellent spies and assassins, Shapeshifters usually present themselves as humanoid creatures. Distantly related to both the anthromorph and human race, shapeshifters however aren’t advanced in both technology or magic, perhaps the weakest in both. However, their ability to change into any known animal or object replaces the loss. Disregarding both magic and technology, Shapeshifters are possibly far more powerful than the others. Owing to their random shapes, shapeshifters are also gifted with an extraordinary power: to become any creature with an almost unlimited lifespan unless mortally wounded. Pity the quadrupedal intelligence managed to concoct a spell that blocks their ability to change.

Quadrupedal Intelligence: creatures with three pairs of limbs, two pairs of which are legs. The race consists mostly of centaur-wise beings, the shape being most suitable to any terrain. Somehow, naga-like beings also fall in this category, their sharp intelligence and adeptness with magic allowing them to be accepted into this race. Other species also include unitaurs (unicorn-wise), cobrataurs (cobra-wise, unrelated to naga) drakotaurs (self-explanatory) and felitaurs (feline race). Complete masters in the elements and the supernatural (magic), the Quadrupedal race fail miserably when it comes to technology, but make it up by utilizing magic in their daily lives.

[following up and double-posting]
Other minor races that have been accepted into the four races:
Naga: head and torso of a human, body of a serpent. Accepted into the quadrupedal race, these beings excel at magic.

Goblins: not the evil, malicious form of undercreatures, these small ugly beings create crude but powerful instruments of war as well as other daily utensils. Accepted into the four races readily, goblins have been making a living as blacksmiths.

Shades: Not exactly alive, but not dead either, Shades are a reflection of both life and death. They had no beginning, and have no evident end, but are also harmless in their existence, preferring not to meddle with life or death. However, they are a fountain of history, being eternal. They are the sole beings that are able to remind all things living of the terrible past. They are sometimes referred to as the ‘ghosts’. They are tolerated in all races, as they haven’t found out a way to get rid of them.

Avian: intelligent, feathered and winged creatures of the sky. Because of the encroaching danger of being overwhelmed and completely destroyed by the new Centi Race, the Avian race have struck up a recent alliance with the current powers. In a growing defending army, Avians utilize their skill in aerodynamics as spies and extra firepower from the skies.

Draconians: Violent and often unapproachable, the race of Draconians likewise sought shelter from the Centi advance by striking up alliances with the four major races. Used in a growing defence army as extra (and literally) firepower. Draconians include Wyverns and other mythical serpents.

The Threat:
Centi: beasts of all shapes and sizes. They’re origin is unknown, and their ways are likewise mysterious. However, a few things known about them is that they take on two forms: either unspeakably horrible, or enchantingly beauteous. They have only one thing on their minds; to wipe out rebellious races and dominate the world. Their technology and magic are both extremely advanced, and their army almost indestructible. However, rumour is that the Centi has a particular weakness, although spies cannot tell where.

The Four Races are likewise building armies to a massive scale in response to the encroaching threat, but still the Centi seem to outstrip their progress, erecting impenetrable fortress and progressively expanding their territory, mercilessly slaughtering the inhabitants of the land they invaded. If those that conformed under the tyranny of the Centi and survived, they were subjected to cruelty beyond imagination.

Seeing the growing threat, and knowing they were unable to halt the progress, the council of the Four races were thrown into confusion, unable to come up with a solution to counter the problem.

That’s when a prophecy, told by a lowly fortune teller, came into existence; Telling of a small band of heroes that will not only beat back the Centi, but also eliminate the whole race.

It is another century since that prophecy was told, and the Centi have made their march against the Four Races, decimating their army and laying ruin to their culture and people. Scattered rebellions were quelled ruthlessly, and a new empire grew upon the backs of a groaning, old civilization.

This is where you come in. The prophecy is about to be fulfilled.

There! Now I’m done. The roleplay non D&D/Final fantasy ruled. Nor is it godmoddish.

Any further suggestions? Or is anybody interested?

I like it! I think you should give some kind of lists of locations and whatnot, and some kind of character sheet. Go ahead and sign me up.

Rhiya Ravenwing 09-05-2004 06:41 AM

Hmm, I must also add that if you are considering, that this is something like extreme descriptive rp (more than 3 sentences per rp, and must make sense… yep, extreme.)

Cool you are interested! I’ll add in the character sheet, but don’t sign up here. This is only a discussion thread:

Name:
Race: (Human, Human hybrid, quadrupedal, shapeshifters, Shade etc etc including Centi [yes, evil is good])
Age:
Occupation:
Alliance:
Ranking (if you are Centi, you have ranking):
Description: (what the character is wearing, clothing weapons, general appearance)
Personality:
Background:
Abilities: (fighting skills, magic skills, anything.)

The setting is unclear for the moment. Most likely I’m going to start off in a small secluded village where the Centi have forgotten their existence. I dunno, but Characters may lead separate paths until circumstances force them together.

CheshireThief 09-05-2004 06:43 AM

Very nice rules. As I stated before, count me in. I have a question about how Shades will work. To me, it seems like they can't harm anything, and they can't be killed. What kinds of things could you do with a Shade?

Arhra 09-05-2004 07:06 AM

Sounds interesting, I might see about joining in. How common are hybrids anyway?

Rhiya Ravenwing 09-05-2004 07:22 AM

Shades are based off a certain undead unit in Warcraft III

basically, shades are passive creatures that are living libraries. They can slip into a more physically tangible form, but when struck they revert immediately back to a semi-transparent state. That means that they cannot attack others.

So they’re just there for information, really.

Rhiya Ravenwing 09-05-2004 07:30 AM

RE Ahra’s question:

Hybrids are pretty common, but I should say that they’ve mostly been eliminated since the overthrowing of the Four Races, so they’re uncommon now I guess.

New note:
Those that rebel against the tyranny of the Centi are forced to hide within deep secluded forests and caves, creating a network of underground communication and something equivalent to the ‘black market’ and whatnot. that includes most hybrids, as they are considered monsters to the Centi and exploited for their rare multi-talents.

I’m gonna be thinking up of stuff. I also need help in developing this rp, cuz I’m mostly out of ideas.

CheshireThief 09-05-2004 07:37 AM

If you need any help, PM me with whatever ideas you want developed. I'll gladly put in anything I can.

Rhiya Ravenwing 09-05-2004 07:41 AM

ehh, just post it up here, and i'll see if i can twist it to my liking?
