More disgust at Square!
Is it just me, or does Square-Enix really suck now? See, most people hated X (i didnt, but thats where the line of goodness ends for me) because FFTA was a big piece of crap, and so was X-2. 11 was weird, and kind of boring. But the real problem is with XII. I have 0% expecation for that game to be good. First off, they gave it to the jerk-off that made FFTA, which is reason enough right there. It doesnt end there though. They discarded the beloved battle system, and changed it with some stupid action battle crap to match Star Ocean: TTEOT. Now, theres nothing wrong with that battle system, it works good for Star Ocean. But not for Final Fantasy. Enix is probably making Square put crap in there FF games now that there the same company. Also, the jerk put it in Ivalice, which ruins the whole "FFs dont take place in the same place" thing. And he added Vieras. But worst of all, the bastard dared to take out the victory music. Thats going way to far.

I'm beyond words.....but I've noticed that most things these days are going downhill........its horrible......
No one puts the effort into things they used to anymore and in the interests of being original, people just come out bastardizing something that was once great. X-2 is a great example. FF never once had a sequel to a game. You say 12 is in Ivalice, so was tactics advance and tactics. They're breaking tradition. I thought it was kind of cool that you could discover things from other FF games in tactics, but you couldn't use them or visit them. I'll stick to the classics..... |

I didn't find anything wrong with FFTA, I thought it was pretty fun. Viaras wheren't that bad, and I just can't see the Victory Fanfare in that game. And X-2 was ok in my books too. FF11 was un FF, I guess they where just experimenting. I have not heard much about Star Ocean so I can't say much there. So, to me, Square-Enix (Squeenix) might have declined alittle bit, but it dosen't terribly suck in my eyes.

All I have to say is don't knock it till you try it. People were saying the same shit before final fantasy 7 came out.

Jesus and videogames are two COMPLETELY diffrent things. dont bring religion into a videogame thread.

I have never played a square enix (or soft or what ever else) game, but to what I have heard, it has gotten too big for its own future possiblities. But really, all everyone seems to want is another 7, but if you give them another seven then you will be called out as unirigonal. I think that the FF series needs a change in gears, maybe some rts worked in. They need a plot change too, no more 'I'm good he's evil, lets kill him' stories. If they put in a romance of the three kingdoms like storyline I'll by it; hell if they just copy the ROTK story than I'll by it |
the principle remains though, you are bashing Square for breaking tradition, when in reality breaking tradition really isn't a bad thing. His example was Jesus breaking tradition. Women not having the right to vote in this country was a tradition...
dont hide behind the facade that because video games and religion are two different things you can just ignore his arguement. I personally would rather see Square doing something new rather then sticking to the same old formula. It will be old after a while. |
Seriously though, there's only so many games that can be made in the style of the pre X-2 games. The style of the interactive movie (because that's what the more modern FF games are) has been done out. I for one don't think SE is making 'poor' FF games because they suck, its because they know that they've used up almost every creative plot point, game twist, and gaming feature that could be jury-rigged into the format of the FF games.
As such, they're finally branching out into new and (for them) unexplored territory. They tried expanding the story-line of one of their games. They made an MMORPG. I hope they'll try some other genres. Edit: the Jesus thing was a joke, damnit. I use it a lot: "Were you born in a barn?" "Jesus was born in a barn. Do you hate Jesus?" |
