Games you wish you played but never got the chance to
As much as we like to play every game that interests us, there are a few out there that, for one reason or another, we pass up. Life finds ways of interfering with our goal to become platonic couch potatoes, limiting our time on games and stuff. And sooner or later, we discover that our parents are not unlimited wells of money for us to draw at our pleasure (although a recent Newsweek article disputes this). And often, a game we would love to try comes out for a system we don't own.
So use this thread to post games you haven't played to any significant amount, but wish you had. Feel free to elaborate on why you didn't get the game. For me, the game that I didn't play but wish I did was FFVII. This comes down to a family tragedy coupled with going with the wrong game console (N64 instead of Playstation). Right now, I'm too busy trying to get a job for after college finishes to justify getting a PSX or even a PS2 for just one game (as much as I want to play it), and I really don't have time to invest in two games at once. I know a PC version of FFVII was released, but I have been unsuccessful in locating a copy at any store I've been to. *sigh* oh well... |
Star Ocean 1 and the new one. I owned the 2nd one on PS but it broke during the second disk. I was sad. I also wanted to play the Dot/hack games. In fact there is a large amount of RPGs on the PS2 I want to play. I don't have a PS2 anymore. :(

Chief Justice Ninja: Try looking for FFVII for PC in online stores, especially ones that offer used copies (like Amazon). It should be very easy to find.

*sigh* So many classic games, so little time... But I'm doing my best, one way or the other, to get my hands on them. I still want to get hold of the Myst series (don't have the money to buy the collection at the moment), the Space Quest series (haven't seen it around recently), and many other classic adventrue and RPG games.

Conker's Bad Fur Day, given the rarity of the cartridge in Europe. I not only should have bought it when it came out, but several of them. I hear they *can* sell for more than twice their original price in good condition. Hindsight, 20/20, blah blah blah.

I'd like to play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (1 or 2), yet I don't have a Microsoft "Box of X", or a powerful enough computer.
|
The Dig. My system was seriously outdated when the game came out, and by the time I upgraded it was already gone from stores. I suppose I could order it online from LucasArts' website, but I've never gotten around to it and right now I can't spare the cash.
I missed the original System Shock for the same reason, and although the game is now up on The Underdogs, it runs slower in DosBox on my Athlon than it did natively on my 386. |
Ahh, the Dig! I'd love to get my hands on that...

How are the Star Ocean games? I didn't get to play anything at all when I was active duty, so I've missed out on every Playsation RPG. The graphics look pretty good on the newest one, but the plot... 'you are on vacation and shit happens'... doesn't look very engrossing. Penny arcade didn't seem too impressed by it.
Also, has anyone played the .hack/sign games? I couldn't get into the show, but I've heard good things about the game. |
I heard the .hack games were kind of bland, but thats only from a source, as I have never played it so i won't judge them.
The Star Oceans were good games, but very overwhelming. Going through SO2 I always felt like I was missing craploads. That and the battle system, as Penny arcade said, can be screwy sometimes. |
