WC3 Editor

I dont suppose any of you know where I can find a more "hand's on" learning guide to the WC3 World Editor do you? I could puzzle out some basic commands through the various help topics, command guides, etc but I would never be able to do what I plan to do.

I would say download a sinisterly complicated map off B.net and study it. Take it apart, change it, test it offline. Most of the really complex maps are copy protected so that you can't open them, but the majority are ok. I would say study some Wintermaul, Hero Wars, just about any non-wintermaul based TD and you'll have a decent grounding. Also, Pyramid Escape is just crazy. I'm not sure if thats copy protected though.

I want to use the Warcraft 3 Editor, cuz I know how to use it and everything and I have a great campaign idea, but NO, my computer decides to have issues when I run it. Like, the toolbars flash and dont stay down for more than a second.

It makes me sad. I LOOOVE warcraft 3. :D

I had such a nice idea for a W3 map... had map sketch drawn out... Hero's/unit's all thuaght up... secret shops thought out... (basicaly a DOTA style map) It would've been Izuals last stand it woulda been sweet...

but World Editer hated me and never fuggin worked right.

Btw just what are you having trouble with? Inputting commands? Positioning? Editing spells? Editing tech? Edditing buildings? what?

I edited quite a few maps when I still played W3 to make em more fair n such.

Well I am stupid. Thats basically my problem. *shrug*
I know WHAT I want to do but I don't KNOW HOW to do it. I am trying to make simply put a CTF footman war, with 6 custom races, towers, etc. I also want to make it so that you can only score on a person once.

I found a site for this. maps.warcraftiii.net
In there is a tutorial section.

That helps a little but im still so clue less about making maps still. All i know how to do is make your heroes be able to exceed lv 10 and go up to higher things like 100 but then thats about it.

Go to Wc3campaigns.com there a site dedicated to modding and map making also you cant just go in and expect the editor to do every thing you want it takes time to learn all the great stuff you can do so when you go to the site click on tutorials.

Honestly, there are already so many poorly created maps out there... Created by people who didn't know how to use the editor at all... Were I you, unless you were REALLY interested in learning it, I Would just work on the idea, and then try to get someone else to actually build the complex parts of the map. I mean you no offence, but it takes time to learn the editor, and no matter how good your idea is, your first maps WILL turn out with bugs and flaws, I know mine did.

In fact, I know the editor pretty well now, after building some of my own maps. If you want, you can send me a partially completed map (Via email or MSN or something) and tell me what you wanted done with it. I'd be willing to help you out. The only thing I WON'T do is make custom units... I just can't stand it, they take forever to load, and you can do them yourself anyways. My area of greatest expertise is the trigger editor, btw. Oh, and if you have any questions about any part of the editor, I'd be glad to help.

And as one last side note, NESS IS AWESOME! I loved Earthbound =D

EVILNess 09-12-2004 08:05 PM

Ironically I can do everything but the triggers.
