VGAA otherwise know as video game addicts annonomys

Hi, my name is josh, and i am a video game addict...lol, at least i was. I had a grade altering body threatening video game addiction in my younger days, it wasnt pretty, but this site is totally off base. Parental limitations on my gaming time actually perpetuated my addiction. Its like taking a chain smoker, and making them half quit.....you can only smoke 2 a day instead of 14 but you can still smoke. Its not like other addictions either. The only way i ever got over my addiction was when i finally got the money to get my own tv and gaming system((that took a lot of skipped lunches people)) and was able to play the games to death that my addiction died off. I hate people that claim to be experts about addictions they have never had. |

What got me off my addiction was a month of basically doing that and no human contact. Then I made some really good friends in the midst of getting tired of games and was able to lay off them for a while. But now that some new games are out, I'm trying to limit myself so I won't fall back into the habit. -_- |
I've slipped away from the Addiction of Gaming (Video variety) over the years. A failing grade can do that to a man.

Now that I'm in college with a full class schedule and two jobs I don't allow myself to be addicted to video games. But in high school...I don't mean to be a bad example but I missed 46 days of school my senior year (last year) and I was only sick like 6 days. But in my defense I had some really easy classes, and I graduated number 9 in my class so I don't see the big deal...unless you're failing something. The only bad thing was I had to submit an appeal in order to credit for second semester classes because I was absent so much...
Even so, its better than some other types of addictions. That article even says 'video games, if not too violent, can "offer some real opportunities for puzzle solving, strategic and critical thinking"'. |
I miss a lot of days also (though generally less than 10 per semester) and I'll admit I'm not always sick. But I also have some easy classes and I'm high-ranked (either 10th, 11th, or 12th) in my class. Honestly, videogaming has never affected my grades that much. I'm not sure what definition you're using to define an addict, but I spend a reasonably high amount of my free time playing videogames. Of course, I also find time for school, work, a girlfriend, and my other artistic passions (literature, music, and movies).

I would sort of consider myself a video game addict, but it really goes in and out. I don't miss school or anything to play games, and I get pretty good grades, but every day I come home I will just start playing games constantly. Like I said, it goes in and out, because I will get a brand new game, play it for a week or more straight, and either beat it or burn out on it and just stop playing. I will go back and play older games until I burn out on those, then I go back to doing other things. I'm sort of addicted in spurts since I don't have the money to buy lots of new games all the time, so I burn out on the few new ones I do get.

and i was kinda hoping to get responses about the article i posted for this thread oh and maxis, i'm in college too :p |
I've been more addicted to simply expanding my collection lately. It's not that I simply want games for their rarity or anything, I'd love to be able to play everything I've bought through to completion. Unfortunately with a full-time job, and other people occupying the entertainment center when I'm not working, I'm lucky to get a few hours of gaming in over the course of a week now. Which is bad, considering I've been buying RPG's almost exclusively.
In the last month or so, I've bought Xenogears (Replacement copy), Front Mission 3, Tales of Destiny, Kingdom Hearts, Valkyrie Profile, FFX-2, Dragon Warrior I&II and III for the GBC, and a couple others I can't quite remember. This is on top of an already huge backlog of stuff I was working through at the time, then factor in maybe 8 hours of gaming time in a week..... Hell, at this rate, my current collection could probably hold me over for a few years. Admittedly, I'm also planning on buying Zone of the Enders 2 and Sword of Mana on Friday, along with Mario Kart DD and SimCity 4 (Which are excusable, since they are presents to my brother for Christmas). |
Infernal: I have a huge, and constantly growing, backlog also. You're not alone. I've just met several friends in the college I'm gonna go to that finish EVERY game they get, too. It amazes me. :p

And the madness continues! Today, while doing some of my christmas shopping, I picked up Sword of Mana, Zone of the Enders 2 and the new Zelda collection for the 'cube. This is excluding the games I bought for my brother for xmas that I will inevitably end up playing anyway (SimCity 4 collection, Mario Kart DD).
