Mind Bending

Go here click the rather large button to your right and just try and keep your mind intact. Jumping into the 4 dimensional steroscopic portion is really fun. Oh and feel free to link to other things which tend to bend your mind through perception.

Now that's an odd game... or is it a game?

Lycanthrope 09-12-2004 02:01 AM

Wow, I've tried drawing two dimentional representations of four dimentional objects before. They resulted in...well, suffice to say that it literally drove me insane for a period of time (in the book I wrote it in, there is a page on which I have essentially carved the words "[My name] Wants to Make People Crazy" in huge letters over the failed attempts of that day to create such a representation. I also had the opportunity to write "Damn Tesserac!" several times... yeah that was an interesting period of time.

It is a game. You move the little cross like thing on the inside of the cub either forward or backwards. Your supposed to hit the large circle in the middle without hitting anything else. The only way to do this is by rotating the cube just right. I can do it in 3d but 4d is vexing me right now.

Thaumaturge 09-12-2004 11:26 AM

Really cool. I especially love things that use that trick to provide the illusion of 3-dimensionality. Just one thing: am I missing something? I was able to hit the circle with little trouble by simply rotating the cube so that the circle and the 'x' were in line and firing the 'x'. The other thing is this: what was the blue line? Every so often after hitting the circle, a blue line would appear, seemingly describing some sort of path; what was this?

Click the radio button with 4d beside it. Things get a lot harder from there. I think the line your describing is the path the ball took after your last kick.

Thaumaturge 09-12-2004 12:00 PM

All right, now that is difficult! How do you determine what's going to happen? Since the geometry is so weird, how do you predict the path of the 'x'?

Sithdarth 09-12-2004 12:04 PM

If you go to the main page where you clicked the button there are topics that are supposed to help you but it is still really hard.

I don't get it, does the geometry change over time or are there four spatial dimensions? Why would someone do such a thing? I'm scared.

Sithdarth 09-12-2004 08:10 PM

Its 4 spatial dimensions. I've had some success in hitting the ball in 4D mode and even manged to exit the hypercube through that little cube inside it. It makes my head hurt after a while though.
