It was, rather looseley, an RP. I didn't wish it's destruction like many RPers seemed to, but it grew not to my liking, and after a certain point I tended to avoid it. It was basically an "RP" where God-Modding and totally insane randomness was encouraged instead of avoided, and since both of those tend to be the bane of any serious RP, it and the people that were part of it were generally shunned as RPers (Even though some pretty good RPers posted in it). After a while, the number of complaints from one group of RPers (Which included IHMN, but had a fair number of others in it as well) was enough that RaiRai and Shiney intervened to see what the hell was going on in the Roleplay forum. They judged that Calvinball was indeed Spam, and had it shut down, which lead to much crying and wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the Calvinballers (And almost lead to a number of them being banned when they went too far and got Shiney mad as hell at them for pestering RaiRai). It also lead to the Roleplay Forum being modded FAR more then it ever was before, which lead up to the current chunk of bannings.

Overall, a rather dark and turbulent time for the RP board.

thanks for posting that FZ, the memories are too painful for me. I must admit that I was one of those misguided calvinballers, but if you'd like to see some of my "serious" rp work, check out any of the various Arcadia posts in the rp forum.

Meh, it's alright. Except for the the fact that the mods now keep a closer eye on the Roleplay forum, for the most part (With most RPers...) it's water under the bridge with no real consequences.

It got damn far before the mods closed down on it. That was during the era of aloofness when the only forums that were being patroled were Discussion and General, and then essentially only by Mashi. Since she tends to avoid the Rollplaying forum, people got away with murder there. Then IHMN and BMHadoken called in Rai, and well thus ended an era. It hasn't changed that much, just no more calvinball. I didn't mind. To me it was simply a way of getting some of my inherant silliness out of my system, as I this shall soon become for me.

Insane - banned for screwing up the thread because he posted with no grammar, punctuation, roleplaying or etiquette.

IHMN - banned for being a critical jackass.

Kildare - banned for mocking Insane, then practically daring the mods to ban him.

While we're waiting for the diabolicalness, hopefully it doesn't occur during this post typing, I would like to inquire about the Calvinball.

So was it just IHMN and BMHadoken*, or was it just them and people they corralled up? And who else took part in this thing that I missed, for better or worse?

*Who is BMH? I know IHMN, but I haven't seen him. Was he, I'm assuming, a mindless BM fanboi who overused the BM smiley icon?

BMH wasn't a hopeless BM fanboy, at least not by this point in history. He just started off with a name that haunted him the rest of his long career here. He wasn't as bad as IHMN, but he did take part in the coup de calvinball. I don't' know what happened to him... just dissapeared as sometimes happens.
