"Ah, so you can teleport, can you? Well, can you teleport to Osterbaum's library if Thaumaturge tells you where Osterbaum's lair is, Dr. Awkward?" Azeran patiently awaited the answer.

It's not easy to work your way through an immense evil fortress full of substandard guards while seeking a single target.
Well, actually, if it were anyone else important enough to be named, yes, it would be. Sarah, however, had three strikes against her. One, she had no idea where in the base her nemesis was. Two, she wanted to wait until she faced Courtney before fusing, to gain the element of surprise. Three, she was a fighter, not a sneaker. So it should come as no shock that her entrance into the chamber occupied by the heroes was at a dead run, trying to find someplace to hide from a raging pack of mooks. Fortunately, although insane, she wasn't dumb. An attempt on the source of all evil at this point would only end in her quick death at the hands of whoever those other people were. Staring into the gaze of her old friend, all she could say was one thing. "This place SUCKS." |
S.A.N.E. nodded and played with some dials on his watch. He teleported away, and when he came back, he had none other than Steven L. with him, grasped by the collar. He pulled out a small metal bar and hit the very confused Steven L. (the L. no longer stands for Lucky!) in the back of the head, promptly knocking him out. S.A.N.E. showed everyone the red knob on his watch. "Knob red... no wonder! BONK!" He hit poor Steven L. again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Steven L. was in midsentence when something bad happened. "Commander Osterbaum, I believe I know where the goo--" He felt himself gripped from behind, and in the next instant, he was standing in a ring of his enemies. Before he could even faint, Steven L. was knocked cold by some sort of metal bar. |
Osterbaum was just about to answer Steven L. when someone appeared taking him with him...
"...Must be one his friends..." Osterbaum then continued reading his comics and at the same tim...planning...and plotting...for something...EVIL! |
Thaumaturge turned to the group. "I don't know the precise location of Osterbaum's Library, but I can help you find it. I can sense the presence of the Dark Magic in the books more precisely than any of you, since I have worked with it more. What's more, I know the books through which we must search. I know how to find the right one, and how to read it and spare my sanity..." He glanced over at S.A.N.E., and added under his breath: "If he doesn't drive me insane first..."

Courtney was just admiring the ten fresh fish, and thinking how she now had a craving for sushi, when she heard a voice...a possibly familiar one.
"This place sucks." Huh!? The girl looked up, and found herself staring into a face, though lovely, contorted by rage and warped by madness. The face belonged to another girl, dressed in her trademark brightly-colored jumpsuit-thing, for some reason running away from the poor guards who were just doing their job. Maybe they were playing a game? Wait-a game? A role-playing game...Courtney's mind began slowly, yes, quite slowly, sifting through old memories, trying to place the voice, the face... "Sarah?" she asked tentatively. "Sarah!" She squealed in delight, racing over to her old friend. "Omigod, it's been like a million years!" Courtney remained blissfully unaware of the fact that Sarah didn't seem all that excited to see her... |
Thaumaturge watched Courtney run towards the newcomer. Could she not see the hatred in the new woman's eyes? Was she blind? And more importantly, who was this newcomer that had breached his defences so easily? Someone was going to get publicly tortured for this. Slowly. Over an open flame... No! He was trying to be good, he had given up his claim on the mountain lair. Let whoever came after him deal with the lax guards. That thought gave him some pleasure. The idiotic minions would be someone else's problem. He wondered if he would be able to drop in from time to time to see the poor fool (the new owner, not the minions) suffer...
But time was wasting. The newcomer had darkness in her heart; like knows like, and this woman would give her soul to destroy Courtney. Hmm... that was an interesting thought... No! He was trying to give up soul hunting. Nevertheless, he pulled out an old soul crystal, keeping it carefully hidden, and prepared to cast a missile should the newcomer threaten Courtney... |
Sarah tried to calm the wave of revulsion as Courtney ran to her. It wasn't completely successful, but for the moment she resisted her homicidal urges. After all, getting shot or magicked before ending this was not an acceptable outcome.
"Yeah, it's been a long time, hasn't it." She didn't manage to keep the skunk-smell look off her face, which made for an interesting picture as Courtney reached her. First chance I get, I'm going for Astrabelle. |
"Hey, Courtney, you know her?" Azeran asked. He noticed that the girl seemed to have a look of absolute hatred on her face as Courtney ran toward her. Something about her doesn't seem right, but i'll play along for now, thought Azeran. If she even makes an evil looking move towards Courtney, i'm taking her down.
|
Courtney sniffed the air. "What? Does something smell funny? Heyyyy...something DOES smell fishy. Wait, no, it's just that huge pile of fish over there."
The girl paused mid-ramble to consider her old friend's distinctly unfriendly face. "Hm. No, I guess something smells fishy after all. What are you doing here in this crazy mountain? And...why do you look so angry?" |
