I'd like to know how I was doing as well, I know I probably God Moded a bit much.

So the new one starts this weekend?

I'm fairly certain I've kept myself clean, or mostly so. I've been blown up and knocked out quite a few times. In fact I'm still smokeing from the last magic missle that hit me, and for some reason everything is my fault.

The reason Calvinball would not work as a honest to goodness RP is that the RPers here don't want to put work into a character just to see it get torn apart in 3 seconds. That and no one wants to sit and make up a deep character that is just going to go crazy and random. Which is one of the big reasons comedy RPs don't make it very far. When you plan out a character with a joke in mind you typecast yourself and it get's old fast. Calvinball allows the character to grow and change so you don't stagante on one joke. You can keep a running joke but it allows you greater freedom to expirment. (Confusing enough for you. I should be a Calc teacher I seem to be really good at complicating things.)

I tried in my last few posts to make sure I was toned down by allowing myself to die and have to respawn and actually giving a location for my phylactery.

You're right about character development though, I certainly don't want to come up with something elaborate and wonderful and suddenly everyone on the field not only knows the character's weakness but has the means to exploit it. I think that's why everyone just uses their username and the kind of powers they wish they had already so that kind of preperation isn't put into the character and then wasted within one page of thread.

I've seen what I thought was some pretty bad god modding but I'm trying not to worry about it too much, just gives me an opportunity to come up with something really heinous and nasty to do back.

Dammit

How unfortunate for me to have to give into sleep (having gone two and a half days without it) and find the game locked. I'll be sure to join in on the next one earlier in the piece.

About character development though, one only needs to provide so much information that when other platers interact they don't type something utterly wrong about the one's character's behavior, phsiquem etc, but still allow enough mystery that you can reveal more and more little facts as the game goes on.

Ok now before you throw stuff at me...

Just what is Calvinball? The Rules? How do you play? There to many post about it for me to specificaly locate all this, so could someone plz tell me?

MasterOfMagic 09-16-2004 04:59 PM

Have you ever RPed? If you have, then you know the rules, its just alot more random, and anyone can join/leave at anytime.

If not (like me, though I had read through a few, they can be really interesting), then think of it like telling a story, from many different characters' points of view. Every post adds to the story. Other than that, think Calvinball from Calvin and Hobbes(surely you've read this). Only every one has powers, and are trying to kill each other. The Calvinball is indestructible.

A more experienced person will be around shortly to add to this, and correct any mistakes I've made.

There's only one rule in Calivinball...You can't play the same way twice.

Bill Amend (the guy who wrote the comic) said that the rules were pretty simple: you made them up as you go.

*sniff* And I wanna play...

slightly aboveaverage man 09-16-2004 06:17 PM

You can play. Also, please don't think this is the calvinball from Calvin and Hobbs. The name Calvinball is just that... a name. Jadarendir chose it because it had most relevance to a game that had no rules. The original name was "A little experimental game, join in." We in no way are ripping off Bill Amend. there, I said it.

The rules run the same as a normal RP, but zaininess is allowed, and encouraged. Random is your best friend. Just don't spam/ godmod.

FinnMacCool 09-16-2004 06:30 PM

Well, duh...I researched a little. Already got my guy primed and ready...Zaniness is all I got.

and Amend's lawyers are at your door in three, two, one.....

If anyone doesn't objest to me being the calvinball, I'l stick around as the calvinball for one more game. Teh pain......
