Radio Show!!!: YOU ALL MUST LISTEN

So I finally have my own radio show going! It starts this coming Saturday. The show will run from midnight to 3 A.M. and will feature my good friend Jason and myself playing the best music possible, mostly a mix of punk, emo, and indie. Now despite me living in small-town Minnesota, you can still listen WHEREVER YOU ARE! That's right, just go to

www.kumm.org

And click "Listen Live". Should even work fairly well with slow connections, since we have both a 28k and 56k stream.

You'll be able to send in requests 3 ways: Calling the number (which I'm not sure of right now), sending an e-mail to request@kumm.org, and sending an instant message on AIM to the screenname "kummDJ". The studio has a collection of 2,000 or 3,000 CDs and a shitload of vinyl (though most the vinyl is older stuff), plus Jason and I have probably around 300-400 CDs of our own, so there's a pretty large chance that we'll have whatever you feel like requesting.

Because our show takes place after 10 we're free to play songs with as many swear words as we want. The only restrictions are these: 1.) We must play 4 songs from the 'new' section in studio each hour. 2.) We cannot play any song (not artist, just song) that has been in the Top 40 in the past 10 years.

So anyways, do give us a listen if you're free midnight on Saturday. I hope to see plenty of requests rolling in from fellow 8-bitters!

Edit: Forgot to mention the time zone! It's on midnight-3 A.M. CENTRAL standard time.

Wait. So you can't play a song if it has been rated in the top 40 any time in the past ten years. Is this one of those "We're rebelling against the institution and refuse to play those songs and artists which have been honored by them because we believe the institution is wrong and we want to rebel against the crowd to prove we're different but wind up rebelling in the exact same way as everyone else and are really just joining another clique" type things or am I miss-reading that?

KefkaTaran 09-15-2004 03:46 PM

Chaos: This is a "we want to be a TRUE alternative station and try to play a mix of music that most stations don't provide." Hence why the majority of stuff we don't play is singles, especially if those singles have been in the top 40. If you'd prefer top 40 music there's a MILLION top 40 stations out there you can listen to. We're not "rebelling against the institution". We're providing something different. And it's impossible to say that KUMM rebels in the same way as everyone else, since I know of no other radio station that has the same amount of freedoms as KUMM.

Also: Like I said, it's not ARTISTS that have been in the top 40. JUST the songs. We can still play songs by artists that have been in the top 40. Just not the SPECIFIC songs. We can play remixes of songs that have been in the top 40 or live versions as long as those haven't made it into the top 40 also.

He he...KUMM...so dirty...

So is it only three hours of non-Top 40 music? Do you guys have any skits planned, any longwinded theories on life, commentary, that kind of stuff?

Meister 09-15-2004 04:32 PM

Sounds cool. Now if it wasn't six hours earlier than my timezone...

AndyBloodredMage 09-15-2004 04:45 PM

I think I'll have a listen then. Midnight central is 11 EST right?

KefkaTaran 09-15-2004 05:17 PM

My Lead Airbag: Nope, not just 3 hours. That rule applies for the whole station, all the time. My show is only that 3 hours every week though. No long-winded theories on life planned YET... but as we become more comofortable behind the mics we'll surely start talking a lot more.

Meister: Aww, you can still give it a listen... ;) It's a Saturday!

Andy: I think Midnight central is 1 eastern, actually.

AndyBloodredMage 09-15-2004 05:32 PM

Crack, thats late. O wells, I'm an insomniac anywho.

KefkaTaran 09-15-2004 05:39 PM

Like I said, least it's a Saturday. Sunday = teh sleep in day!

Drooling Iguana 09-15-2004 08:33 PM

I'm going to set my computer on a timer to record the show when it comes on so that I can listen to it the next morning.. If it's okay with KT, I could put the file up for download afterwards.

I'm not sure about the legalities of that, though, so I won't post the file without Kefka's permission.
