Need suggestions
I am about to start writing a book I have been planning for a year, but I have one problem, one of my characters is without a background story.
Here's how the story stands and where this man is located in it: The story is much deeper than I'm about to explain it, but bear with me: One of the characters (a kid) in my story is troubled by a lot of things going through his mind, so he decides to take a walk in the city about 7 miles from the base (yeah, it's kind of a military epic), where he meets a man (the man I need a story for) at a local pub sitting next to him. His hair is long and unruly. He walks around in a leather jacket. This man ends up teaching the kid some secrets of fist fighting. The man drinks, but not to utter drunkedness. Later (much later) in the story he falls in love with a woman engineer at the base. She is a 20-something who ran away from home a few years ago. People criticize her for "kind of looking like a dyke" (think Priss from Bubblegum Crisis). He will become much more involved in the story later on, but for now all I need is background. The Limits: -his storyline can not intertwine with the woman's past in any way. -his storyline can not intertwine with the boy's past in any way. -Hell, he can't even have anything to do with the base yet. -Doesn't have to be too deep, just make it original. -He doesn't have to be an auto mechanic. -Assume he is sane. -Doesn't carry a gun or any weapon of any kind...yet. -The story takes place about 20 years in the future. -Story must include how he arrives in city (somewhere in southeastern New Mexico). I would like the story to be flexible so I can adapt it easily. Keep in mind, I estimate this story to be around three or four books long. And as a cheap "thank you": In the event I get this thing published, the writer of the background story I choose will recieve a free (signed I guess :o whoopee :o ) copy of the first book. Thanks |
Sorry about the double posting, but I just didn't find an appropriate spot to put this.
I only told you what you needed to know about the book. Trust me, it's not a love story, this is just a minor gap I need to fill. |
Born from a pimple of Mephisto, this man has risen to cause havoc upon the earth. He silently cloaks himself to learn the secrets of men. Only one, the one who loves him, can have a hope of stopping this heinous abburation......
wait, that's my d&d plot.... okay... serious now. hmmmm, what say ye if the man is a wandering con-artist. Not neccesarily a thief in the traditional sense, but a person who takes only what he needs. He doesn't con people into losing life savings, just a hundred or so to tide him over until the next victim. Except the boy and/or girl really get(s) to him. He starts to actually care for them as people and not just a next meal. He could have runaway himself (sympathy for the girl) or had a serious injustice happen to him that makes him feel the world owes him. maybe... possibly...... can't think..... what else..... should say...................... I like pie! |
The man was part of a law enforcement squad called The Enforcers in New York(or other large city) He was a sniper, one of the best. One night his unit was dispatched to deal with a hostage situation. He took a vantage point on the west side of the building. He hated these scum, drug dealers, kidnappers, and murderers. They all deserved to die.
He began firing. One, two, three, they all fell to his shots. His radio came on he didn't care. Fire, reload, aim, fire, reload, aim, fire, that was his world. He continued the world a blur. Then it stopped. He was out of ammo. He heard a voice in his ear “Red Falcon cease fire! I repeat cease fire!" He had done it. The streets were safe from them. “Red Falcon survey the site and report you findings" Looking through his scope he realized what he had done. He had erred. Yes he had killed all his targets, but that wasn't all he had killed. A kid was dead on the floor. The kid had been standing behind one of the targets! How could he have not noticed?! But that's just it...he didn't notice...and now that child’s blood, innocent blood, was on his hands. He collapsed grasping his head and all went black. He awoke at HQ the other officers were worried about him. "Hey are you all right?" "You passed out after the job was done." "We reviewed some of the recording from your scope great shots! How many did you kill 15, 20?" He answered "One" "What do you mean one I saw at least 5 drop on the disk?" "I killed a kid...he could be alive if I had been calm...if I had done the job right." "Look man you did what you had to do" "No I didn't. I should have stayed calm thought things through." He left the force later that week. He couldn't stand to pick up another gun. Not after that. He left New York also, he had to find a place where he wouldn't be recognized. Where he could find his own punishment without listening to people try and justify what he had done. He left and headed west. He needed to calm his mind to sort out his thoughts. He remembered the martial training that was mandatory to join the Enforcers. He trained himself further pushing his body to its limits during the day, and drinking at night, all to stave off memories of his past and let him try to find a way to repent for what he did that night 20 years ago. Wow I usually don’t write that much. Guess I got into it. I totally have to use this as a backstory in DnD too just make it fantasy style |
Both are excellent. I think there's a way I can mend them together. I'll have to make it halfway believable, though. Maybe conman turned cop, or vice-versa.

so... that is it? You have what you need? aww....
