Discworld.

My game arrived! Oh, how I have searched for thee in bargain bins EVERYWHERE. But being informed by a game shop owner, Discworld has become 'classic' and everyone seems to want to get their mitts on it. And now I'm an owner of it, and very VERY happy.

I first played this game on my brothers console, the really old crappy Playstation. I never got far, because being the evil brother that he is, every time I'd get somewhere on a game, he'd want his system back and erase my saves. So now, older, wiser and owner of this game myself, I shall sit down and delve into the wonderful world of Rincewind and Luggage.

Unfortunately, I find that the game lags quite a lot, especially during the intro. I guess, in a way, it just adds that oldschool touch and makes me feel all chirpy and giddy. I can't wait to start playing when Shiney moves here, so he too may see the awesomeness of this old game.

Anyone else played this game? Try not to spoil it for me, will ya? I've only got a little way before the erasing took place.

I played the second one... entertaining, but having read all the books (well, having had at the time, I guess), I couldn't help but notice some pretty gross misconceptions.

I do have the first sitting around here somewhere, but haven't got around to it yet. Good job finding it though. I had the same problem with Discworld Noir. Not that it's been solved.

You've been looking for Discworld? I have a copy on my computer, if you would have asked earlier I would have hooked you up with it.

Druid, in fact there are three: Discworld, Discworld 2 and Discworld Noir. Have fun looking. If you find them, have fun getting them to run. If you get them to run... yeah, well, they're good, have fun playing them. Erm.

(One thing I think I can disclose: The first one is available over at Home of the Underdogs. If you don't *have* to own a physical copy and have no moral problems with abandonware, feel free to go there.
Except if you have anything less than DSL since it's about 100 megs.)

I'm not sure if ScummVM works with the discworld games, but you could try.

What is discworld? Could anyone give a quick synopsis, or at least tell me what genre it is?

Discworld is the quirky creation of Terry Pratchett. It's funny, antistereotypical and tells a fantasy tale from a worm's eye view of the world.

Of course, that's just the books...

The game makes me laugh. The voices and the captions when clicking on things make for much fun. I wouldn't know if to class the game as RPG, as you control the pointer to click on things to talk to people, gather objects and view things.

'OOoooh, sparklies!' always gets me giggling.

Hamelin 09-18-2004 08:07 AM

Ah, well you have the talkie version, I do not...

Actually... I'm not sure. last time I played the game it was on a computer without speakers.
