Forum Niceties?
my god how i hate the 3000+ post arrogant members on forum sites.
thank god for this forum site. i haven't noticed any of the arrogant ones here, only the helpful fun people (i.e.- lycanthrope, demonwithaglasshand) but at http://www.forums.extreemu.co.uk and http://forums.mtgnews.com if you start one or two threads and you have less than 100 posts, eventually someone will tell you to 'slow down and get to know people before you start theading' thanks to the people here for remaining friendly |
Your links aren't working for me...
...but I find your comments to be with merit. These are some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of coming across on the net. |
Now if only we could take over the world. We could have a council of Nuklearpower forumers for congress, and we could elect a president (Brian, obviously, with the first lady Lydia and Vice President Sosa) and we could have Pierre be the chief justice of the supreme court. If only B.net could take a hint from the NP forums....I've noticed that basically smacktards pervade just about every facet of the internet but the NP forums thanks to our wonderful mods. *pats Iguana and Shiney and RaiRai and Mashi and Kuro on the head and gives them a cookie*
|
As one of the 2000+ gang, allow me to introduce myself, welcome you to the forum, and shake your hand.
I am Slightly Aboveaverage Man, *shakes hand* And, I know what you have said is true... however you must beware. there are a few forumites who will join and be jack-asses, but most of them get banned in short notice. You also may run into a Subtle Flamer: a guy who has not been banned because he insults you intelligence in very subtle ways. They are few and far between though; and most people won't bother with bashing your thread as long as it serves a purpose and is well thought out... such as this. |

I can just see that happening.
TV reporter: "And the Surgeon General has recommended that everyone should have at least one daily dose of Vitamin Me." At any rate, I call dibs on Secretary of Defense! WHOOO! (my SAAArmy will be complete!) In all seriousness, the general friendliness of almost all the members here are what convinced me to join up. I want to especially give a shout out to Ranger Aiden who helped guide me through my first RP. |
Well you won't find arrogance here (of that variety anyways) because we strictly enforce the "who gives a shit about post counts" way of life. And if someone begins to give a shit about post counts, they generally tend to lose the ability to increase theirs for the next week or two. It's a beautiful life!
|
I agree with all that's been said, the people here are great, very friendly. This whole forums is a very good one, little spam or flame wars or anything like that, i take my hat off to the mods.
|
Along the lines of post counts and stuff, I did some quick calculations. There are about 174,000 posts on the Nuklear Power Forums, and 2112 members. That equates to roughly 82 PPU (posts per user). EXCEPT you have to take into account quite a few of those members have 1 or 0 posts and never did anything ever again. I have arbitrarily designated the "threshold of sustained activeness" as 20, because once I did about 20 posts I posted fairly consistently too. This yields an active member count of 510, an average post count of 341. This yields two points: First, no one cares about post counts on this forum (except geeks like me...and maybe some others here, for statistical purposes) and second...wow. We need to get lives people.
For the sake of scientific completiveness: 480 members have a 0 count, 270 have 1 post, 1260 have under 10 posts, 180 persons are between 10 and 20. Also, 27 persons have greater than 999 posts, yielding 62,003 posts. One member has 1337 posts (Highonpawns). This means 1.27% of all members and 5.29% of all active members have contributed 35.63% of all posts. |
:-D Yay! I'm helpful and fun! This makes me happy. Thanks, natowarhead.
|
i just wanted to give you guys a pat on the back for the quality that you've kept this site.
**accepts Slightly Aboveaverage Man's handshake** "and i'm Natowarhead." sorry if i forgot anyone's name earlier... i wrote it right after a flame war at mtgnews because of my low post count (apparently the higher your posts, the more your rulings count). P.S.- the MTGNews link should be working now, although the extreemu site is under construction. |
I like these boards because everyone is completely different. The opinions, drawing skills, rit1ng sqillz, and interests of the forumers differ from person to person. Just never go to the CoH official forums. There, EVERYONE is right, if you know what I mean.
|
Hmm, I must REALLY need a life if my post count is over ten times the average...
But posts are nothing more then a count of how much you like to hear yourself talk, really (*Looks at own postcount* Hmm...). This seems overall a somewhat easygoing forum, so no one cares about Post Count that much except when it's occasionally brought up by questioning people. Works for the best that way. Worrying too much about you "Precious Postcount" can get pretty crazy and annoying pretty fast... |
I agree. Especially if you attempt to outdo the RPers here. Never try that. It can only be done by an immortal.
|
Yep, we be a pretty laid back crowd. Stick around, make some posts, but above all have a good time.
On a sidenote, dibs on Secretary of State! |
Damn. We're not feared? I'm dissappointed...
|
As they say, you only get one shot at a great first impression, and such praise indicates we're doing fine in this respect. Thanks for the compliment, Nato.
|
I call treasurer.
|
I love this forum. It's strict, but laid back. Every rule that they have, I agree with, so I can't complain. And there's not enough rules, so we have plenty of fun. And post counts don't mean much, except for the people that make it mean much. Defentily one of the best forums I go to. Gamefaqs forum, just sucks, it's unorganized and way to busy and lowers your IQ just looking at it. Gaia is just too busy for me. And VGCats is mean and offensive. Again... the best forum I go too. Keep it up mods!
|
I subscribe to the school of "Who gives a damn about post count" since I for the most part frequent only the general and discussion forums. You'll note that my post count, while respectable, pales in comparison to say...forever zero.
|
Well let's be honest here, the vast majority of us pale in comparison to Forever Zero, 'cept for the almighty IHATEMAKINGNAMES.
|
Yeah, but that's only because in RPs, you need to post a lot to keep the story going. You don't just post once and walk away, you check back on the thread all the time and post whenever you think it'll advance your cahracter and/or the plot. Thus, Lots O' Posts. I haven't RPed in a while though, so my Post Count has leveled out. Other forums I check are General, Off-Topic, and rarely Video Games, Comics, and Animation.
Now IHMN... I have no clue how the hell he has so many posts. That is still a mystery that boggles my mind. |
IHMN just posts everywhere to see himself type. Thread Whoreing is what it's called.
|
I know the reason IHMN has as many posts as he does. The BattleRoyal Threads, are filled with his posts(at least one a page), and I'm sure that almost every thread in this forum has at least one post from IHMN, with the exception of a few sections that seem more stagnant, such as the arts-n-crafts, 8-bit related, and such.
Edit: Beaten to the punch yet again. |
That's called trolling right there, I'd watch it. He's proliferant in the roleplaying forum, which is where he accumulates most of his posts.
|
I tend to ignore post count most of the time. Unless there's some kind of rule-breaking, then I try to see if they are new or just stupid.
|
I have not been here for very long, but i nottice the difference. This is the best run forum I have seen to date. Keep it up.

Yess. I ignore post counts, even when helping people. They need help, they need help. Whether its just b/c they're new, or are mentally unstable. They need help all the same.
I frequent all forums except RP, Discussion, and 8-bit theatre. Well, mostly. I've been dropping off on the Video Games and General for some reason. Must be b/c I love Off Topic so much. :p |
What's a post count? :P
This is probably one of the most well-behaved web communites I've ever seen. Due mostly to the mods, who run a tight ship, that consequently doesn't sink. |
There were a couple of incindents I've noticed when people haven't liked the mods and got militant, but they don't seem to be around any more. I say this to discourage any thought of rebellion.

Well, in a perfect world, at least. Sadly, that kind of authority is frowned upon these days, so it's only warnings and bans, now. Really, I thought the whole Mt. Doom thing was a joke, but I just had my first Evil Leadership for Dummies and Softies meeting, and I've seen things you wouldn't even dream of. I had to check my soul at the door, because everyone knows that Enforcing The Rules means "I'm no longer a living, breathing, human being." Oh, wait. That was supposed to be a secret. Looks like a few more people will have to 'take a vacation.' And by 'take a vacation' I mean pack your winter gear. Ahaha! |
I don't really understand what this topic is about. there was no topic question or anything, just a "thank you" for being a nice guy.
so... you're welcome, I guess. whoa, Croteam's custom rank is the name of a Viktor Vaughn album. |
