I LOVE DDR!! I'm not that good at it (only a 4 foot novice) but I love to play! Playing in the arcade is a lot better than at home because of the industrial steel pads that never break. My favorite version is DDR 7th mix.
These are the songs I normally play:
Nori nori noir
Candy (both versions)
.59
Burning heat!
Japan
Ethnic Exotic
B4 you

All on easy mode of course 'cause I suck at the harder ones.

Perhaps in the comfort of my own home. I was made to look a fool by a large male friend of mine a few months ago when we had a go on the arcade machine. He ended up being WAY better than I was, even managing to do it backward when I could barely put a foot right. I was so ashamed. ;_;

Yeah.. at home is the only way that I will play it, I couldn't pull in enough courage to play it at the arcades. I should borrow my cousins mat so I could play it.

DDR is awesome and I love it. I'm the Secretary of the DDR club at my college. A few helpful tips:

1-Although you don't want to get embarassed, the arcade is probably the best place to learn because the foam pads you get for home play slide around on the floor and mess you up further. The metal arcade pads offer no slippage so you can focus more on the beat.

2- An easy way to get coordinated with the song: there's always a little bit of an introduction before the arrows begin, so bounce up and down or shuffle your feet over the pad to the beat and you are now in sync with the song. As long as you don't go out of sync, most easy songs are yours to conquer.

3- The best way to progress is to pick a couple of songs and play them through a few times to get good at them. You'd be surprised at how much better you'll get at other songs once you've mastered one or two.

I myself am not the greatest DDR player (I can pretty much do most 6 and a couple of 7 footers) and I absolutely love it. Video games and a workout all in one. My favorite songs are:
Stomp to my Beat
Tsugaru
Twilight Zone
Whistle Song
Kakumei

DDR is probably one of the most, if not THE most, evil franchises out on the gaming market today. *shudder* Bad memories.

I usually play on standard, and I like .59, Stompin To My Beat, Whistle Song, Burnin Heat!, Kakumei, and Maxx Unlimited when I can put it on light. I need to play at a local arcade, I can definately attract a crowd considering I like to add unique flares to my songs.

Like, on the whistle song, I throw my arm up like in a cheer when it's up+down twice and make it look like I'm at a rave or something. Whenever it's a long hold and the song turns slightly quiet, i usually freeze in a wierd position. It's more fun that way. Adn plus you can play Light or Standard and look like a total pro.

anyone who likes DDR, should look up Stepmania. That way you can play on your computer.

Other than that, I can't WAIT to play Drummania from the comfort of my own home...

So, as a demi-video game store employee, I just thought it might bear noting that DDR Extreme just got released for PS2, and it actually incorporates the eye-toy in the process.

I haven't actually played it yet, as I am poor, but I'm told (by our local Sony distributor lady) that adding the eye-toy adds another set of arrows that gets taken care of by waving your hand over them on-screen.

I'm also assured that another 4 arrows, thus requiring full body movement, doesn't somehow make the game impossible.

Although, I'm frightened of the guy who can finish anything on heavy with the eye-toy adding on more arrows...

Amen. I have to drive at least 45 minutes to find a DDR machine. If you go to www.ddrfreak.com they have every location of every machine everywhere in the US, (or close to it) so maybe you could find one closer. ^^;;

But I love DDR and I've been playing it for several years now.

Even tough Myself, hate the DDR games, I have two songs from it due to one of my friends playing it on BTP Radio. Metal Gear Solid Remix(I only got this because it was on beat mania) and Waka laka.
