The backwards mall arcade here in my small Indiana town recently acquired a DDR machine, and it's become something of a mecca for the nerds in surrounding cities.

I stopped in once to watch my brother and his friends playing on the machine, and it was interesting to say the least. At least it gets some of them exercise that they need but wouldn't get otherwise. Other than that it's plain hilarious to watch.

Well hey, I sort of suck at DDR, but if I had a PS2 then I could play it everyday and get better and better at it. And I even went to the arcade at the base on Saturday so I got quite a bit of practice. That game is friggin' awesome and fun! :D

Oh God, ever since I went back to school I have been dying to play it. When I left I was only missingExotic Ethnic on heavy mode by the skin on my teeth. I would say I can do 7 step heavy songs easily enough, 8 step songs are fairly normal to me, and 9 step songs are hard, but doable.
my favorite songs (on heavy mode of course):
Twilight zone
A
Heaven is a '57 metallic gray
Exotic Ethnic
Bag (can only do this song with speed modifiers)
Holic (this one is mad fun. I do this one when I want to impress people)
Cowgirl (yes, yes I know this one is silly. I play that one to screw around)

Actually the metal pads can be released for both consoles, even though they're 99 bucks. And there's an anti-slip pad called Dance Pad Revolution if you wish. I have it - it doesn't slide, you just have to keep in mind where you are since there's no 'feeling with your feet' as to where you are like it is in the arcades.

Damn I want to play arcade sometime. I'm good enough.

I wish i had the metal pads. But they cost so dang much, 99 dollars for that. I think i rather just play at an arcade for that.

I thought the metal pads cost 149.99 bucks. That's what they cost at Fry's...darn high prices!

I just got into the DDR craze over the summer. I've already got stepmania on my computer with a whopping 1000 songs. My friends in another resident hall have a PS DDR pad and a PlayStation -> USB converter and we just dance the night away a few times a week. As for my skill level, I usually stick to 6-step songs and working on a few 7s.

Some pretty killer 3rd party songs out there for stepmania... already 5 mixes of video game songs are in my collection. Too many great songs for me to mention all of them here, but I'll list my favorites
Let mom sleep (Jet Grind Radio)
Opening Suite (Halo)
Main Theme (Bubble Bobble)
J-E-N-O-V-A (FFVII)
Wood Man's Theme (MegaMan 2)

Of the regular Mixes, i'd have to say my favorites are
Burning Heat!
TwinBee ~Generation X~
Dynamite Rave
End of the Century
.59
Tsugaru

One last thing, if you're looking for a challenge, go load up stepmania, download DDRei Tournamix 4 and do The Lightswitch Rave on Heavy (yes it's the one from the Strongbad E-mail) or possibly The Legend of ART if you can stand DJ Damien and a large amount of profanity.

Good source of files for Stepmania: http://www.ddramerica.com/bttracker/ (I reccomend the Anime&Videogames as well as all the Tournamix ones)
If you're completely against torrents I can probably send you a few songs if you IM me.

If ya want a DDR clone that dosen't require downloading (EG, Play at office or school) Then may I suggest www.flashflashrevoloution.com

darkt0aster 09-29-2004 03:46 PM

heh, i used to do flash flash revolution, good stuff (assuming your computer and/or internet connection isn't ancient), but some of it would kill you if you tried it on a pad (ie Flight of the Bumblebee or a few of the others under 'classics')

I'm also working on my own stepfile for Fett's Vette :D
one that you can dance to and kicks it up higher than what's on FFR for those who tread into Heavy territory.
