Marathon

I don't know if no one knows this game...

Recently, everyone's been playing a little game called Halo. But I've been looking online and finding QUITE a lot of information about it.

First, the Cortana letters:

Number two, speculation on the whole of a connection with this game and Halo. I wanna play but I don't have a Mac.

anyone else heard of the prequel to Halo?

GatoFiero 09-27-2004 05:45 PM

Yes, I have heard of it and played it. I actually find it to be a pretty solid fps.

Give me a little time and I can hook you all up with the links to download the game or I can host my full game file.

I've just read through that site too, very odd indeed. However, i'm willing to bet money that it's probably a publicity stunt.

I've heard many people tell me the Marathon trilogy is way better than Halo, especially as far as single-player gameplay goes. I'm definitely interested in checking it out.

*has now completely read through the site*

Argg! Why didn't I look at the dates sooner?! It is a publicity stunt, and a pretty cool one at that, for the first Halo.

Edit - And yes, I have a version of Marathon for the PC. I'm still looking for the links. On the off chance that I am unable to find them again, does anyone know a site where I can upload a 17 mb file?

So it IS out for the PC?

Hmmm... I really wanna play this. Cortana seems to have different motives come Halo 2. *Note: I am in no way affiliated with Bungie*

Speculation aside, finding out the stories that they pieced their games from seems to be fairly interesting.

jesus, the Marathon series of games were so amazing. the multiplay in that was really well done for its time, and its a damn shame that it didn't get more press than it did, as it broke new ground in alot of technologies that we now hold commonplace (most notably: using a mouse for aiming).

The question is how do you get a copy of the game for PC? As well, how does the storyline connect with that of Halo?

Is it the same universe? It seems that Cortana knows of Marathon. And if Bungie put ALOT of detail from those games in Halo, then I gotta play it. Just to know about everything I'm missing...

Heheh.

As a DOOM fanatic, I know much about the almighty Marathon, and it's regrettably Mac hertiage.

The only PC version of the game was Durandal, and it was also on the Mac.

The only way to get Marathon goodness on your PC now is to find the AlephOne on http://marathon.bungie.org/ somewhere. That's where I got it anyway.

And yes, my Avatar speaks volumes.

GatoFiero 09-28-2004 07:05 PM

Yep, you download and set up AlephOne, then you unzip your Marathon file into the AlephOne file.

There's a lot of games better than Halo, IMO. Nevertheless, Marathon is up there in my books. Spent countless hours playing it with my friend co-op over his home's LAN. Good times... good times.
