Why Red Mage is Red
A look into the designing process
Guy 1: Ok, so we gotta come up with a name for this guy who is half fighter, half mage. Guy 2: Fighter mage? Guy 1: No, that sounds stupid. Guy 2:….mage fighter? Guy 1:no. go sit in the corner. Guy 2: awww… Guy 3: ok, so our mages are black and white? Guy 1: yea, so what? Guy 3: yea, so how about a combo of that, like, grey mage? Guy 1: no, for one, a grey mage? This isn’t some old geezer out fighting here, plus, he isn’t just a mixture of the magics, he is also a fighter, a front-liner, a warrior mage. Guy 3: so… a fighter who is a mage? A mage who is a fighter? Guy 4: what color did we make the fighter again? Guy 1 and 3: red. Guy 4: so how about red mage? Guy 1: yea, that could work. Guy 2: How ‘bout reddish-grey mage? Guy 1: Oh, you are SO fired. Guy 2: awww… |
haha, funny, and makes sense, "at the same fuggin time"
He really should've been a "black and white mage".
ah but FF1 didn't have a "black and white mage".
"black and white mage" would be a long fuggin title.
...and it still would not explain why he fights with a sword and does good combat damage. |
It was going to be "black and white mage with a little bit of Fighter" now that would have be long. And I'm just brainstorming here.
yea, like we could change time by brainstorming about it
I just wrote this up after re-reading through the archives and coming across that one guest comic where this was asked. |
Actually, it's quite a boring story: he's red due to the total number of colors the NES is capable of displaying on screen simultaneously.
well, they still could of made him green or purple (well, ok not purple but still you know what I mean).
Well, grey mage has always made sense to me...
