American Military

....yes war gaming and war are two different things. but it is the only way to compare the training of nations that are not at war with each other.

also the systems for war gaming are actually quite impressive. it is a system similar to laser tag except that a hit anywhere registers. A computer system as well as referees prevent cheating (using a bead sheet as cover). artillery is also used. a computer is hooked up to an arti. The arti is fired with a blank and the comp tracks where the shot would go and if anyone is hit they are removed from play

Also a coffered with a colleague who is far more knowledgeable on the subject of the military than I.

Countries with better infantry: Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Poland.

Countries with infantry on par with US: France, Italy
but the differences here are quite small. the Italian only made the list because I counted paratroopers as infantry. there paratroopers are amazing but the rest of there army sucks.

The Americans still have the best combined arms there is. There special forces are all right. Extremely generalized. The SAS, J2 and whatever the Israeli one is a called are better though. The USSR special forces where the best but that’s because they felt a 30% mortality rate was acceptable for training.

As a US Marine, I've got to throw in two cents.

You also have to keep in mind that there's inter-service cooperation that goes on. How well diffrent services work togeather and support each other is also a big thing to keep in mind.

Before I throw in my buck-fifty, I would like to know how you are rating these countries' militaries. Is it how many wargames they have won?

Dark Black 09-30-2004 05:17 PM

Woo! We have better military than you! (is from UK)

If only we had someone to attack... *sniff*

Dark Black, he only said infantry, not total miltary.

Secondly, I'd also like to know how these evaluations are made. I'd also like to know how countries like Canada and Poland can have better infantry than the US. (No offense to any Canadians and Polish people) American infantry are outfitted with state-of-the-art gear and GPS locators and such. On the other hand, I've heard rumors that Canada has had to cut down defense spending. (I also heard that some Canadian military branches might go bankrupt, but I don't think that one is likely to be true.) They may well have good infantry, but when you consider the training and gear that US forces recieve, I don't think it's very likely that we're only on par with France and Italy. I'm sorry to anyone that may be offended by my opinions, but I just don't see how its possible.

Show me an Italian that can keep up with a Marine, and I'll show you Stallone in the 80s.

A French-man who's as good as a United States Army Private First Class? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE.

Robot Jesus, you have truly just made yourself out to be a COMPLETE moron. What country are you from? Really. If it's the United States, I am truly shamed by this.

And find me ONE better man than a trained Navy S.E.A.L. The Navy-man will laugh in his face, kick it off, and eat his innards. (You think I'm kidding?) My dad was a Navy S.E.A.L. You can't tell me they're not THE VERY BEST that the world has to offer and be serious.

It's apparent that you don't know shit. End of story.

A mod should come in and close this thread on the basis that Robot Jesus is not very bright -- kinda like a box of burned crayons compared to a box of fluorescent markers. The crayons are borderline useless.

There's my 2 pennies.

Lord Tobias, I would like to ask you to be my friend, so that I never have to stand against you.

Robot Jesus 09-30-2004 06:46 PM

I think you miss understood me the US special forces are very generalized. Send J2 and Seals on a mission to capture the plans for the Russian torpedo J2 will beat them. Send the same two squads on a mission destroy the bunker surrounded by three lines of sentries, the seals will win. But the SAS specialize in battlefield infiltration and would be the most successful. The American Special Forces are trained to do everything, but this means they aren’t exceptionally good at any one thing (when compared to other special forces) there is some specialization within the ranks (army rangers, navy seals) but the difference is not that great.

You say that a country like Canada or Poland cant have good infantry. That simply betrays your ignorance of the military outside of the United States, infantry is the major focus of funding in these countries, and because of that one Canadian private has training equivalent to an US marine.

Also America military doctrine is based of fighting an all out war on another country. Hence the focus on combined arms, but countries like Canada and Great Britain have been focusing on peacekeeping style conflict where there is a distinct absence of cruse missiles. So infantry are trained to fight with little support. The doctrine of the US military is changing towards this but it isn’t there yet.

But these differences are still very minor. All that should be taken away from this is that America is not the be all and end all of the military. They don’t have the absolute best in everything but they are very good at what there trained to do. The type of combat an army will be facing has changed. A big A-1 Abrams tank is just too big (and can’t even be used for cover very well) its great for killing other tanks that was what it was designed for. But it’s not going to see to many other tanks in the future. More and more the focus is going to be on infantry with minimal support, and that is one way America is not ready to fight.

LordTobias, I have an idea. Why not try not to flame people in the discussion thread? Lay off the insults.

Robot, what is the discussion here? I'm seeing statements, not questions.
