dothack..is it worth it?
 

I have heard nothing but good things about the dothack games..However, before I devote myself to 4 games like that, I must know...is it worth it? I have never played it, only heard the music, which my friend sent me! God I love the music!

Anyways, would you consider it worth buying?

yes, though they are hard. I have just the first (since i A: dont own a ps2 B: i cant beat it) but it is one of my favorit rpgs, actually it is my third favorit (Paper mario first and Tales of Symponia secound).
But it is an expensive thing to get all four, but you also get a dvd with it

It's a pretty cool RPG, though a little repetitive IMO (it is a MMORPG-like game, so it's to be expected). The storyline is good, and there's even some regular anime that ties into it (which I also reccomend). I've only played through the first, but I enjoyed it. Never went further since the game was borrowed and it was on my brother's PS2.

At least try out the first one before you shell out the money for all four.

I played the first one, and i have to say i'd rather be playing the MMO they're emulating than the actual game. not that its bad or anything like that.

The main draw is definitely the pretty cool story. I have the first one and the gameplay gets old rather quickly, but I do want to eventually finish the series just for that story.

I'd say only get them if you can find them real cheap. Like under $20 a piece. Even then, it's like paying $80 for one really long 4 disc game that has a good story, but the combat gets old so quick, it becomes a chore.

I played through the first one of these and now I'm on the second, but this game is great! The combat does get a little repetitive, but with the storyline, I don't care too much. I would highly recommend this game.

Also, when you go to buy it, it's a lot easier if you have a couple of friends who also want to play the game. I've borrowed the first two from friends and I'm buying the third (which I'll lend to them while I wrap up the second one). This way, each person throws in about $20-$30 and you pass all the games around.

But all other things aside, if you are an RPG fan, I think you'll probably like this game.

I haven't played the games, mainly becuase I don't have a PS2 yet. But even then, I'm not sure I'd want to shell out so much money for, as gurusloth said, is basically a four disk game.

But heck, at least you get to play it. If the next Xenosaga is like that first one, it'll just turn into one long CG OVA that happens to let you interact with it every few hours.

Thanks for the info guys. I will probably follow Darktoasters advise and buy the first before I pay for all four. A friend of mine told me a little about the storyline, and it sounded like it could possibly be better than most FF storylines, currently my fav RPG.

for a dungeonhack, the dungeons and fields themselves are incredibly tedious and poorly designed. it hurt my naive soul to force myself through zelda1-style levels.

on the other hand, i am very intriuged by the storyline and tried to play through the first game, but i had to give up.
