Help. Pretty Please?

I format my harddrive, and put XP Pro on instead of crappy ME. (Yay!!). But then after I'm on the internet for maybe 30 sec: "LSA Shell {Export Version} has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Ick.

But that's not the worst part. A little while after that pops up, 'NT Authority/Isass' issues a system shutdown. This happens every time I long on. Without fail. I'm typing this really fast so I can get some help.

Oh, and a 'messanger service' SPYWARE ADVISORY' just popped up while I was typing.

EDIT: It just happened agian. So I have corrections. NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM was the one who issued the shutdown, b/c "an error occured in the process 'C:/WINDOWS/System/Isass' with the error code '-1073741819'"

Ok, you have two options:

Option 1) [Stover recomended] If you haven't put a whole lot of stuff, or don't like taking chances, simply format again. But. Before you format, go download, Firefox, Spybot: Search and Destroy, and an antivirus program (unless you already own it). Put these programs on a disk, and then format. The first thing (FIRST THING) you install once you've installed XP again is your antivirus software, and enable a firewall. Put SP:S&D on next, then Firefox, and then download Windows Service Pack 2.

Option 2) Ok, it really sounds like you've got some shit on your computer. Run your antivirus software (two different programs, if possible), your antispyware software, and then find a disk-doctor/windows fixer program on line (because it sounds like something went all funky during instalation). Also, stop using IE if you are using it.

Firefox at www.mozilla.org
Others can be found out www.downloads.com

He has a registery thingy that inserts spyware popups n stuff. I got same thing.

Search n destroy cant kill it. Neither can ad ware.

But the System error thing.

It appears your instilation of Xp was wrong b/c your registery/program known as Isass.exe appears to be missing.

It is a core process needed, and in true POS XP fashion. If missing it'll immediatly lock up your computer and inform you that you've got 1 minute to bash your head on the desk until it shut's itself down.

You're infected with the Sasser virus (well, technically it's the Sasser worm, but everyone seems to call all worms, viruses and trojans "viruses," even though true viruses are almost never used these days.) I ran into it a lot when I worked tech support. It can strike any computer with an Internet connection running one of the more recent versions of Windows (2000/XP) without all of the latest patches installed, which means that, if you're installing Windows on a new machine that isn't behind a hardware firewall, it's very difficult to avoid viruses, since you'd have to connect to the Internet in order to download the patches.

Your best bet would be to download the patches as regular files, without Windows Update (I think they're available from Microsoft's website, but you'll have to do some poking around to find them,) burn them to a CD, then re-install Windows with your network cable unplugged. Once Windows is installed, install all of the patches before connecting to the Internet for the first time, then plug in the cable, and you should be alright.

Nerds.

I usually let Shiney sort out all of my internet/computer problems over netmeet. Sit back and watch the cursor dance about my screen. I just have problems hiding things I don't want him to see. Damn my hentai addiction.

Anyway, hope you get your problem sorted out. Computer problems frustrate me to no end.

Ick. It looks like I'll be doing the restart dance for a week at least, since I can't get to my XP disk until then (don't ask). I'll go ahead and download all of that stuff, and see if it works. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I never thought I'd say this, but I pray to god that it is the Sasser worm. I just found a removal tool for it, so I wouldn't need to re-format. Yay!! (Now I cross my fingers...)

I had a similar problem with the same messages, and mine was the sasser worm. Just go and download the patches from the microsoft site and you should be fine. I believe they also have instructions on how to get rid of the worm once you dl the files. Good luck.

MasterOfMagic 10-03-2004 03:23 PM

Yessssssssss!! I fixed it! It wasn't the Sasser worm (the removal program said there was no infection), so I have no idea how, but I did it! I have been online for an hour and five minutes without any problems! Thanks agian!

Drooling Iguana 10-03-2004 03:32 PM

Now patch your system immediately or else it'll all just happen again.

MasterOfMagic 10-03-2004 03:41 PM

Oh, I have. Don't worry about that. I have. Stupid Worms/Viruses/Trojans/Whatever-the-hell-else, ruining my life. Whoever came up with the first one should suffer every horrible thing you can think of in the after life.
