I have seen MGS3, and it is good.

I just got ahold of the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater playable demo from the Official US Playstation Magazine demo CD.

Neeto.

I haven't yet played through the entire demo (I know, I know, I'm an ass) but what I've seen so far has impressed me.

Okay, I'll be honest: what really impressed me is that I got to blow up an alligator with a hand grenade.

The game starts out in August, 1964, on a military airplane. Jack, who's codename is "Naked Snake" (I'm not making this up), is about to attempt the world's first HALO jump in order to infiltrate enemy territory undetected. Jack looks an AWFUL LOT like the Snake we've grown to love over the years.

During the HALO jump, you can use the R1 button to switch views from the movie sequence to a view of the ground from Jack's eyes. Eventually you land, accidentally ditching your backpack of goodies on a nearby tree branch. After a short 'codec' scene - by 'codec' I mean Vietnam-war era personal radio transponder unit - you get to run around, play with camo features, kill snakes and birds (which then turn into rations for you to stock up on - this time you can stock more than three) and climb trees. Then you run across a swamp full of quicksand and feces, and alligators.

I sniped three gators before being sucked into the swamp at which point, something peculiar happened: The words "Snake Is Dead" appeared, along with a choice to continue or exit. I chose to exit, as I have this 'life' thing I must attend to at least every half hour or so. Upon choosing 'exit', the words "Snake Is Dead" morphed and became "Time Paradox."

Time Paradox? Maybe the Patriots are using time travel to wipe out any potential adversaries? Maybe Sam has leapt into the body of a mercenary, and later in the game you help Al and Ziggy get him to leap home? Maybe Hideo is laughing at us right now?

Anybody else play this yet?

Yay, Before I've even played the game it's creeped me out. MGS1 was ok, nothing much to creep me out ('Cept mayby Psyco mantise), and near the end MGS2 Scared the shit out of me ("You've been playing to long Psymon"- "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!")

And now MGS3 with the time paradox thingy (How am I gonna cope with Timespillters3, the whole game is about time paradoxs to help your self)

My guess for the Time Paradox thingy is... well, if Big Boss dies, Snake never happens, the future is fucked... hence, Time Paradox. :P

Holy shit.

I need that demo.

I'm going to the store.

Time paradoxes, world ruling molds, dismembered arms that control people... *sigh* I wish we could get back to traditional MGS, with stuff like floating pyschics and walking tanks...

But, the world being fucked is not a Time Paradox, since the timeline would just continue on as normal, except Snake's not their to save everyone's ass. Think about how old Biff stole the almanac, traveled into the past and made it so that he would become supreme ruler. Sure, it fucked a lot of people up, but it wasn't a paradox.

No, to be a Time Paradox, according to Back to the Future, it has to be something huger...

My prediction is that this Snake is truly the Snake we know and love sent back in time. He completes his mission, earns the name Big Boss along the way, then gets cloned. Later, his cloned self kills Big Boss, although Big Boss/Snake knew it would happen all along since he did it before.

So, Snake was his own 'clone father', then killed himself...

Cmon, that sounds crazy...almost, Hideo crazy, hmm?

Isin't a time paradox when you meet up with yourself in a differant timezone.

EG: You go back in time, Give the past you an item he needs but doesn't find himself, Past you becomes almighty ruler.

But in a sense the first two games have already happened, which can't be if the original Snake dies... that's what I got out of it.

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche 10-03-2004 04:35 PM

if my lead air bag is right then does that make it suicide since he killed himself

I refuse to theorize too much until the game is released. Kojima will fuck us all one way or another with his story.

I rushed out and got that magazine/demo disc immediately. *drool* It plays like a Metal Gear Solid game! This is good!

Unfortunately the demo appears to be timed, so I'm going to have to learn to play it perfectly so I can get as far as is possible (which I believe is reaching Sokolov... we shall see).

My main question about the Snake and Big Boss being the same is... if this is the same SNake we know and love why did he get sent back into the past? And why does he eventually turn 'evil'? I dunno. I don't think I'd like that twist one bit.

My Lead Airbag 10-03-2004 09:11 PM

He obviously got sent back in the past to stop the Metal gear project in its infancy. It turns out he was set up by OTHER people who went into the past with Metal Gear technology, then capture him, take his DNA, and torture him evil.

Ya know...no matter how crazy I make my fake plot, Kojima will still out-weird it...
