Recommendations for OTHER Anime Shows

Seriously, I'll I'm hearing about on all my boards is the same shows with the same reasons for them being so great and yada yada yada. Well no matter the consequence nor if anyone posts anything or not, I want to make a thread for the 'other'.

Bascially, recommend good Anime shows for the NON Frequently mentioned shows. I'll list most of the ones I heard over and over and over again...

Trigun
Hellsing
Cowboy Bebop
Princess Mononoke
Excel Saga
FLCL (Foolie Koolie, all its other names)
DragonBall (Z, GT)
Berserk
Any others you think are named too much

Now really, I love all the shows I have named save two, one of which I haven't seen, but everyone mentions them TOO MUCH! I also realize this might be more of a thread for those who watch anime besides the stuff on TV generally. But in any event, I'm just seeing if we can get some talk about others shows and see if people watch anything else besides just these shows above. It'll give people the chance to say other things knowing they can have people respond to it and give others the chance to hear new ideas for Anime they haven't seen and perhaps have never heard of.

So let's name some other stuff for a while. And if the admins are without argument, let those who start going on about these shows named above be heavily reticuled. :)

I posted a thread a while back about Heat Guy J (Which I don't believe had any replies), which is an extremely nice action series. I believe the third volume just came out on DVD, which to my knowledge completes the first season. They've done an amazingly quick job at localizing it, the first disc came out over the summer, only a few months after the first season aired in Japan.

It's a pretty straightforward futuristic action series, but from what I've seen I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Essentially it follows two members of a special police division (Daisuke Aurora and J, an android) and their various activities, such as combating a powerful mob boss with an unhealthy affinity for hand grenades, and venturing into underground sewer-cities. In any case, I'd definitely reccomend picking up the first disc and giving it a shot.

See, already someone has mentioned a show I haven't seen. :D

Come now people, there's hundreds upon hundreds of shows. There's gotta be stuff you've seen.

Ghost in the Shell doesn't get as much props as it should. It's one of the few anime movies I can watch over and over again.

Key the Metal Idol.

I'm horrid at summerizing stuff, so check the link. It's an excellent series, very emotional, very intruiging. it's from the same guy who directed "Battle Angel Alita"

Key was very taxing for me to watch, but now that I've seen it all, its quite good! It all leads up to the ending and what an ending. Plus it was made by a guy who worked on Evangelion (An Assistant Director or Senior Writer, forgot which).

Naruto
Gensomaden Saiyuki
SD Gundam (utterly hilarious)

Trust me, all of them are worth it.

BTW, is Excel Saga the anime where they parody all kinds of anime conventions?

Serial Experments Lain. I think I've only seen it mentioned one or twice around here, I guess it could count under this. The storyline gets pretty deep, The characters don't have flat personalities, and they gave the shadows some strange effect that kinda resembles the backgrounds when you see the info on the computers, which kinda suggests that the Wired (Show's version of the internet) has a much darker side then what we're led to beleve. Finally, it makes me wonder what would happen once computers and technology becomes as much a part of life as eating breakfast.

My two personal favorites: Silent Mobius and Tank Police

I've got the first two discs out of the series. Very interesting stuff from what I've seen, but it's kinda hard to say having only seen the first half. Nobody carries the DVD's anymore, I found the first two pre-owned a couple months back, but I haven't been able to track down the other two.
