Wicked gun powder? All gun powder does is make an explosion to propel the bullet, it's not like you can really alter that much (Besides make it explode more, but then the gun will be destroyed).
And the major problem with Blue Magic is how will we decide what can be learned by a blue mage? As you have it, he can learn anything as long as he watches it (Which is much more like a mimic then a Blue Mage. A mimic who can use the mimiced moves even after the original user isn't using it. And mimics are cheap in the first place, so this enhanced one is even worse) |
I think you have to kind of become one with them or live with them as gau from ff6 or something
|
I think Blue Mages have to actually get hit by (and survive) an attack in order to learn it. Even then, they might not do it as well as the original.

I haven't played FFTA and I forgot how Final Fantasy V works, but in FFVII the first attack is "avoided" (The character spins around and takes no damage). In FFX the magic is absorbed through Lancet. In FFV I know you have to get hit, but I don't remember if you take damage, but their are some instant death spells so I would assume the first attack doesn't damage them.
And afterwords, the damage would be based on the characters magic (They may have copied it, but they are still casting it). But, still, what would be skills/spell that a blue mage could copy, and what are skills/spells that a blue mage couldn't? Why can a blue mage learn Matra-Magic, but not Ice 2? |
The general theme of Blue Mages is that they "absorb" the special abilites of monsters, and use Magic to subsitute for things that the Monsters have but humans don't, i.e. a Fire creature's flame... bladder... thingy. You get the picture. And Blue Mages wear Middle Eastern clothes, like turbans and such. Think Lawrence of Arabia.
Off course, depending on the setting and character, it could change a bit. Blue Mages are "unique" classes that don't have much canon about them, like a Wizard or Fighter class does. As we've seen, Blue Mages can go from absorbing energy into a materia(FF7) to eating the creature (FF9) to using parts of the monster to learn the skills (FF8) to it being race and technique specific (Ronso and its special usage of Lancet in FFX). I remember IHMN making a schitzo Rogue-like (from X-men, not the class!) Blue mage a while back. So you're pretty much free to do whatever sounds right in this setting; if you want it to be rather common and like an actual school of magic a la Black Magic, just go with the "Getting hit with and survive" thing. If, however, you want to be unique (VERY unique), then take a page from Quina or something and go with it. I recommend the former, since its kinda difficult to come up with something like that. And no, I'm not joining, just adding my two cents about one of my favorite job classes of all time. |

Well, since this is a FF1 like area, and there was no blue mage, I really don't think that the whole hit then learn thing is for me. But obviously, no one likes the other method i tried thinking up, so ill just go with hit and learn thing for now.

Actually, the blue mage I had was BMHadoken's FF RP version of a blue mage. Half-demon with the ability to use other demon's powers by drinking their brain fluids. Also took on characteristics of the demons, depending on how much he drinks.
Also, from earlier discussion, Lancet is not a dragoon skill. It was a Blue Mage skill, but Khimari had some Dragoon in him (Jump). Number - Player - Name - Race - Class 1. Outbounder - Trenius Kar - Human - Black Mage 2. black mage - ferret - Human* - Fighter 3. Armored Bishoujo - Tirana Fausterbird - Human - White Mage 4. ChesireThief - Francis de'Armo - Half-elf - Thief 5. Dragonsbane - Faladar Hazenon - Human - Dragoon 6. Ryu Kurai - Thurgis Karan - Dragonkin - Dragoon **7. The Argent Lord - Jalathas - Human* - Dark Knight 8. videogamerz2000 - Felbf - Half elf-half drow - Dragoon 9. Solnac Relishan - Nighthawk Shadowfeather - Drow - Monk 10. IHateMakingNames - Cagon Waanzinniger - Human - Berserker * None listed, so went with default race (Human) ** Character bio is sub-par, possibly not acceptable (And evil) |
How about if it leaves a scar, you can learn it? Then you won't get a huge variety of god-moddy powers, but you'll still have access to some goodies that can deal damage.

If Mini-Fighter comes back, he has a Thimgle, a Human Red Mage.
Has it been long enough to say go ahead and start it? |
