cameos

iv been thinking, finale fantisy wasnt the only NES game. why not have some cameos. like mario and link. who else should have a quick guest appearence.

I think Brian is trying to keep 8-Bit Theater in the Final Fantasy world. He does have cameos from other FF games, like cloud in episode 18 and 19.

Forever Zero 12-06-2003 10:56 PM

That was his only real cameo though, maybe he should have some more FF cameos? I can see multiple people from FF6 coming over and chatting with the FF regulars. I can imagine the match ups if it was FF6, Locke and Thief discussing the finer points of Thievery, Sabin and BB battling each other to test their skills, Edger and RM discussing the finer points of tweaking, Celes and WM (I just see them going together for some reason), Fighter bugging Shadow the ninja to help him make swordchucks, and BM temporarily forgetting WM when Terra shows up, until Terra uses Ultima on BM...

Katana 12-06-2003 11:24 PM

and then BM says something about "Ultima" being a level 10 spell....

MaskedLarry 12-06-2003 11:31 PM

And they're about to tell him the secret of magicite until Fighter takes him away,..

I've had an idea about this sort of thing before...it goes something like this:

[Chaos has been defeated. Peace reigns...except in one room in the castle of Corneria...]
Sara: IRS...contracts...that goddamned Thief! He's got to die! Send him in...
[Locke walks in]
Sara: Alright, this is rather complicated, so just let me explain.
Locke: Shoot.
Sara: There is one person who has brought Corneria to its knees...scratch that, two, but I han handle Steve.
Locke[suspicious]: Uh-huh...
Sara: His name is Thief, and he is a member of the former Light Warriors. Which means that he's most likely got three [disgusted] heroes watching his back. So, I must hire an assassin that surpasses all of them.
Locke: Um, how does this relate to me? I'm a hero too, you know.
Sara: You are a treasure hunter, and you will be paid well for your part in this, of course.
Locke: Go on.
Sara: I need someone who can defeat each of the Warriors at their own game. Someone who can out-sword Fighter...
Locke, thinking: One laser sword, one sword of death, one two-handed four-bladed attack...
Sara: ...out-stat Red Mage...
Locke, still thinking: Oh, come on, they can only go to L50!
Sara: ...out-mass destroy Black Mage...
Locke, thinking some more: Ultima, baby, yeah!
Sara: ...and of course, out-steal and outwit Thief.
Locke, also thinking: I taught the boy everything he knows.
Sara: So...
Locke: I accept this mission.
Sara: Good. You're a hunter, get hunting.
[Locke turns to leave]
Sara, extending 8-bit photograph: Here's the person I want for the job. You're to find this young lady and deliver her to me.
Locke, final thoughts: Why does she always get all the good contracts?

hahaha i have no idea what ur talking about but its still funny

I'm personally against cameos, they make the story too gimmicky. Its bad enough we had the Sulk & Aracno-Dude...

I'm sorry, I don't find cameos fun or funny, and actually cringe a bit when I see them. Sure, Brian could pull in every 8-bit character out there, but unless its a character's weirded-out, drug-induced, head trip, it could really ruin the story. I've seen lots of sprite comics, and when I see a cameo, it always seems like the author just ran out of ideas.

Of course, a non-speaking role cameo might work. Like in a situation where somebody is speaking to a huge croud, and you slip in a Mario sprite. Kinda like the Pixar cameos, as you have to be paying close attention to catch any of them.

Amen. Cameos just seem too gimmicky and really hurt the story. I wouldn't mind never seeing another cameo in the whole series.

If Brian does decide to have a camieo, I think it'll be nothing more then just someone in the background, or if he needed a crowd shot. Though between the custom sprites, re-colors, and FF3, I think we won't be seeing Mario in 8-bit anytime soon.
