Anyone have advice for starting a webcomic?

Just figured I'd take a look, I know I'm gonna start one but I figured I'd ask first; any comic writers there have advice, or hell, maybe a link to an article or something?

Thanks.

If you're itching to make a sprite comic, Clicky.

I suppose some of them work fine for a regular comic, too, such as the "Make your own material," thing, but meh.

I was actually planning on drawing it by hand and cleaning it up in Photoshop.

I think the phrase "sprite comic" is used too liberally. If you exclusively use stock sprites (and recolors of them), you are making a sprite comic. If you use original sprites designed to stand alone and/or work with existing sprites, I think your comic is more in the category of "pixel art." I see nothing wrong with original "sprites," but I hate how they are bashed by wanna be elitists.

I'd say 8-bit theater is pixel art.

Yeah, but like I said, some of those Commandments apply to hand-drawn comics as well.

And I suppose you're right, AJ III. I'll have to keep that in mind to use against the sprite-bashers once I finish making my sprites for my comic (My avatar is an example of the type of sprite I am using).

No. It's just not.

It's made up of sprite edits and ordinary sprites.

Completely custom sprites, such as the ones used in, say, Kid Radd, are pixel art.

If the sprite is merely made to compare with another sprite of the same style, in size and shape comparisons, that's pixel art. Editing from another sprite directly is not.

I.E. A two dimensional computerised image edited from Megaman is a sprite; a two dimensional computerised image made to compare with Megaman is pixel art.

I'd say make sure that you ENJOY doing it, and that you think your material is REALLY quality. If even YOU hate your own stuff, then how much is someone else (who isn't you...) going to like it?

I'm my own biggest fan... I really love what our writer comes up with, realizing that it panders to our sense of humor... I figure, If I see greatness in it, others will at least see good. But if I went through with HSS thinking that it sucked from the get go, it probably would. (it might even now, but less so).

Would you care to show us some of your art? Your ideas for a script?

My advice? Go here: http://www.bobandgeorge.com/Other/Gu...comicHelp.html

If you read Bob and George, you probably know they get many, many, many hits a day. And they may end up hosting your strip for a while, if it's good. If it's really good, it may be permanent.

Even if they don't host your strip, you can still read the guides. PAY ATTENTION TO THEM. It'll be good for you.

Well, I've been working on my art recently, but I haven't uploaded anything new. I'll get on that and post it here, when I can.

As for my material, I'd say it's pretty decent. Not perfect, but it's definitely a laugh or two.

And I was thinking about going with FuitadNet, I'm just not sure how much b/w I'd need.
