I love this book, but there are way too many spelling errors...
No offence to Brian, but I'm only up to page 38 and I've already spotted 3-5 spelling errors. That means by the end of the book, following this trend, there will be 130-217 errors. I love the writing, but trying to replace missing letters or correct misspellings can really take away from the flow of the story. Ah, feels good to let a rant out. Sorry if, even though I did not want to, I offended Brian, or any of his cult members.

thats what he gets for writing it out on paper instead of using Word. and also some blame can certainly be put on incompetent editors.
im curious, as i like finding spelling errors and such in professional publications, what and where are some of these errors? $10 says at least one of them was using the wrong "their", "they're", or "there". |
The spelling errors are so minor that my mind skiped over most of them. My brain can easily substitute "one" for what I later relised in one of the many read overs I did of the last several issues was written on.
Also I just thought this was interesting and I wanted to say something about it. It seems like the book is bringing out people who wouldn't normaly post in the forums. |
Yeah, the spelling errors infuriate me and they are many. Couldn't be helped when one editor screwed me and another died on me and then I had to do a ton of work across all 600+ pages and had a week to do it in while in the middle of moving, being bombarded by hurricanes, evacuating, and somehow doing 3 comics a week.

Brian, there better damn well not be any spelling errors in Nuklear Age GOLD edition.

How could it get any golder than it already is without blinding people completely?
I'm an editor/proofreader type person, and... the spelling and grammar errors really do stand out. I've had to look twice a few times to figure out what the word was supposed to be, for example the replacement of "phlegm" with "phloem." (Did someone turn into a tree while I wasn't looking?) Stuff like this may not bother regular readers much, but finding multiple spelling errors per page is, for me, like driving over gravel. Thankfully, the story's starting to pick up speed, and I'm beginning to enjoy it more despite the gravel. |

For Brian: I said no offence. I know you had a lot to go through, and I appreciate it immensely. Doesn't mean I won't go against my ways of paying attention to the details and being an ass by correcting people. Again, sorry if you were offended, but that was not my intention.
For the inquisitive person: The first one I remember was on pg. 24, mid-way through the page. "...to something more along the lines of, oh say,000:1...." Took me a few seconds to aggree with myself that it was 1000:1. Someone said the phlegm one, think I got to there, unless it was an imagined memory. Pg. 42, lower half. "The four sang in an slightly off key unison." The obviously boldified "n" shouldn't be there. Little stuff, but it annoys me to a great extent because that's the way I am, easily annoyed to a great extent by stupid, little stuff. |
I'm not offended. Much as you are compelled to point them out, I'm compelled to give the reasons why they are there. Some are my fault, some are from the printers. I honestly have trouble not throttling all my friends who were allegedly proofreading the damn thing as I wrote it. How so much got past the 7 of them I'll never know.
If you want to be Mr. Helpful, feel free to compile a list of the typos you find in a .doc file and send it to me when you're done. It'll be about 1,000 times more work than my editors were able to provide. If you undertake this task, I must ask that page number, paragraph number, and line within the paragraph be given to help me track it down and mark the corrections for my publisher. |
Brian - I'll be glad to do this. I'm not reading it terribly fast - a chapter or two a day, which is how you recommended it anyway, ne? - but I can be cruelly thorough. Do you want grammar nitpicks too?
