Hear My Tale of Woe

I just got back from voting. I was there for a grand total of four hours. I was ready to accept that, then this happened:

I arrive at the table, and they begin looking for my name. Lo and behold, IT'S NOT THERE. I'm looking at my voting registration card as I type, but for some reason I wasn't on the list. There was no "Let us double check" or "Hang on while I ask someone..." it was. "Go over there and vote provisionally".

So I go over and explain the situation. I offer to emergency register. (You swear an oath saying you registered) She says, "We don't know how to do that," WTF! So I vote provisionally. Even though I registered.

If you don't know what a provisional ballot is, let me explain it to you: It doesn't count. It's there to make you feel special. I put the godamn thing s in a fucking CARDBOARD BOX WITH A HOLE CUT IN IT!

I'm really angry.

what state are you in, and did you vote in the primary?

Illuminatus 11-02-2004 09:24 PM

Colorado. No, I'm a student and wasn't here for the primary.

KhanFusion 11-02-2004 09:24 PM

I'm a registered independent since the day I turned 18, and it took me a grand total of 3 minutes to vote.

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Illuminatus, individual's votes tend to not matter anyway, thanks to the electoral college.

KhanFusion 11-02-2004 09:30 PM

No. Not really. The college has only gone against the popular vote of their state, like.... what..... once?

AndyBloodredMage 11-02-2004 09:36 PM

Going against it is irregardless. The fact remains that with our current system, the majority of our country could want one guy, but based on placement across the nation, the other guy could win. To clarify:

State A has 1 Electoral vote.
States B and C do as well.

11 People reside in states A, B, and C. In A, 6 people vote for kerry, and he takes the state. In B, 6 people vote for kerry, and he takes all the votes. In state C, all 11 people vote for Bush. In the end, 23 people voted for Bush, whereas 10 voted for Kerry, yet Kerry won the electoral college.

Colorado is technically a swing state, even though it hasn't voted Democrat since Carter. There was also something on the ballot that would have allowed for a dividing of the electioral vote, in which case mine might have counted a little bit.

KhanFusion, if I vote Democrat in Texas, my vote is wasted. That cannot be denied.

Rhana 11-02-2004 09:43 PM

Dude that sucks, Illuminatus. Send it to the papers. No matter who wins, there is no excuse for incompetent morons running the election.

DarthZeth 11-02-2004 09:45 PM

My town's got a book with your name in it that you have to sign before you vote. that means you get to see my signature next to each election that i voted in. Its cool, cuz I can see whether or not my family voted (since they are on the next pages).

But I voted by absentee ballot this year.

My girlfriend, however, got her application for an absentee ballot rejected. They got a "sorry, you cant have the ballot" letter to her in time. But not the ballot. Go figure.
