The Last Samurai

Holy shite, did this movie kick ass or what? I don't know about you, but this is definately worth one or two trips back to the theater. I just wish I could get the DVD for X-Mas or something. If you say you're not gonna see it because it implies that the last of the samurai was a white American, then shut up and go see it. You'll be singin a different tune then.

i have to agree. i think what happened at the end should have been done differently, but the movie is all badass. theres guns, cannons, gatling guns, armies, horses, swords and sword fighting. and if that doesnt convince you, this will....theres Ninja! arguably the most bad ass scene involving ninja ever.

Well thanks. Now the time till it comes to Germany (read: spring 2004) will be even longer. No wonder people start downloading movies like maniacs.

Did it deserve the R-rating?

My dad'll take me, but I need some excuses for my mom...

Viper Daimao 12-08-2003 08:49 PM

it might be R. if so, its from all the violence, theres not really gore, just some cutting, slashing and stabbing and some blood. not much vulgar language at all, and no sex or nudity at all.

Is it a really condensed version of Shogun set two hundred years later?

Tell your mom Tom Cruise is in it. She'll go with you.

I just saw it and I thought it was a very good movie! It answers the question "Samurai vs. Ninja" quite nicely. AND, what I almost jumped out of my seat for was near the beginning, when Tom Cruise actually USES his cavalry saber! He actually used some real fencing tactics with it! FINALLY, a movie that has what my style of fencing was derived from! *weeps for joy!* :thief:
But it wasn't all fight, either! There was some quasi-deep philosophical thinking behind it! Very nicely done.

Yes, a very enjoyable movie. My only real problem with it was the ninja sceen. Ninjas were basicaly, only assasins. Not fighters. They wouldn't even use long swords (katana), only short, more dagger type stuff (ninjado it's called, I think... not completely sure). But in the movie they were going toe-to-toe with samurai! I mean, in open combat, samurai could cut them down like grass. Everything else was good, though, except for insignificant stuff not really worth bringing up.

Yeah, that's why they got their asses kicked after Tom called them out. I thought it was rather funny tho, how they kept jumping through the hole in the wall like respawned enemies in Tenchu or something. :p
