[Smith]I would like to share a... revelation I've had...[/Smith]

Don't do a voice that hurts. I did one that hurt a little, but if it's accepted, I'll use it. But when trying a new mic configuration (saran wrap over it to filter out noise [only partially successful]), I also tried a new voice, that hurt a bit at the "black mage" line. Observe: Owie

Also, my previous two BM hopefuls: my favorite and GM- Gollum Mage.

If you really insist on a painful voice however, please have some water nearby. We won't want to have auditions for the next one because you destroyed your voice with this one.

Or do we? Hrm, ignore that post ;)

Edit: Fixed broekn links.

for hosting, I've had relatively little problem with geocities, as long as you give the pplz the link directly to your file, not the webpage, since you exceed the bandiwth limit rather quicky if you do the latter.
----------
for those that have posted files so far...

Nytdreamer:
2--not bad, it does kinda sound like the original BM, but the timing and speech just seems a little off or awkward to me
3--some minor errors in the dialogue, but a little better than 2, voicewise

Dragonlove & Boter:
broken links
----------
I'd also like some criticism about my files, because I've only heard from a few people
www.geocities.com/darkt0aster/darkt0aster4.wav
www.geocities.com/darkt0aster/darkt0aster5.wav
www.geocities.com/darkt0aster/darkt0aster6.wav
1-3 were done on my sucky nomad ii mic, so I didn't include them
4 is my normal voice
5 is kinda like the old BM
6 is more evil sounding

EDIT: @#%...this is ironic, after me complimenting my host, I'm having issues with geocities.
you may need to copy and paste the link in your browser or just type it in, sorry for the inconvenience, i'll try to fix this soon...

Oops, sorry about that. Edited, and I'll re-post them here.

Owie

My favorite

GM- Gollum Mage.

Is it alright to use a low voice? i can do a good low voice.
My mic is a little bit better. The sound is much clearer but only when I plug it into the Line In. That's how shitty my card's preamp is, it's better to use Goldwave to amp it up.

I find it really odd that you guys can't get to my link. It works for me. All well. So long as TLF has it I think I'm good. Actually from the sound of it, I already lost. I think I'll have my improv group help me out on Thursday. Maybe they can help me come up with a better voice.

I've got a new one
trying the ming the merciless + stewie griffin + homer simpson idea
how close I am, I cannot say (never heard ming before)
www.geocities.com/darkt0aster/darkt0aster7.wav
(if you get a "this page cannot be accessed" error, try just copying and pasting the link in your browser, sorry but I'm having trouble with geocities at the moment)
please give me some feedback (also for my previously posted 4, 5, and 6)!

for the others--

dragonlove: good job overall, 4 out of 5 stars

boter: the owie track does sound painful ;) not a bad job at all on your favorite, as for the gollum one, it's good... creepy but good, if that's what you're going for, good job then

Nytdreamer 12-09-2003 04:20 PM

Boter: I do think your favorite was is definately the best of your three :) the only thing that seems off to me (and it may only be me) is some of the speech seems a little too fast and makes it harder to understand, but really that is a good voice.

Dragonglove: I did manage to hear yours, it was ok, but I think the voice might be a little too normal? I'm not a judge though of course, but you've certainly put forth a good effort

everyone else: for some reason I haven't gotten your links to work for me :-\ sorry, not that I'm really good at critiquing this... I'm just an amateur myself.

This is most definatley the best Black Mage voice so far. My reasons are threefold:

1. You don't sound like an idiot.
2. The voice has a good boyancy, it would be good at portraying BMs casual approach to random slaughter.
3. There is never a 3.

5/5

The only critisism I have is that the last line is a bit rushed, he's over-eager not rabid.
Seriously, submit this voice.

Hamelin 12-09-2003 07:25 PM

I agree, Darktoaster has something right there... it reminds me of the guy who voiced Simon the Sorcerer in that game (Simon the Sorcerer, it was a point and click adventure... a Scumm Engine game)

Only beef I have with it is the I am the Black Mage line is a bit rushed, and you were too loud into the mic so there was some distortion and static.

Madspyman 12-09-2003 08:23 PM

I had this link posted in Black Mage Casting Call but that thread was locked like right after I posted, maybe I smell.
