Starocean: Till the end of Time
I have recently played this game and all that I have to say is that it is freakin awesome! I really like the battle system, it flows really well and the story is good too. But the music could use a little variety. Im to the part where you get Albel on your team and you are looking for the Marquis.
Who else has played this game and what do you think of it? |
If you like the battle system I reccoment Tales of Symphonia, a much better game. I say this honestly, Star Ocean is a rip off of the Tales engine completely, and not done as well as Tales did it.
|
Stop trying to kill other people's moods, XJapan. Calling things rip-offs of other things is cheap and in this case, vague. I don't see any reason how the battle system for Star Ocean III rips off the battle system of Tales of Symphonia. That's just like saying the arena style battle system of Custom Robo is a rip off of the PvP arena battles in Armored Core. In fact, it's exactly like that.
At any rate, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is pretty awesome. I'm too early in the game to make any good reviews on it. I'm still power leveling my party in the Airyglyph tunnels. |
I wouldn't say it's a cheap thing to do as long as he can back it up.
|
But backing up comparisons on game styles is ASKING for a flame war, so how about we leave it at that?
From what I saw the battle system looked pretty fun, minus the stupid AI *cough Penny arcade cough*ActionRPGs arent my cup of tea, most of the time, but I liked ToS, ToD, and KH, so I guess I'm turning around. |
I'm planning on picking this up, but am on a tight budget. Can someone give me a quick synopsis, along with it's pros and cons?
|
For one the FIRST Star Ocean (made for PSX) WAS a ripoff of Tales of Phantasia (a SNES game that has since been ported to PSX and now GBA, one of the most famous Japanese RPGs, it actually outshined Final Fantasy in Japan)
If youd have even considered looking up information before calling me a liar you would have found out there was even CONTROVERSY over a ripped off battle system, but ripping off a battle system is NOT illegal, it is still very noticable. And I wasnt DESTROYING the mood, I was just giving a game reccomendation to someone who liked Star Ocean who might like to see a cleaner approach AT the system |

Main Character is Fayt Leingod, a college student. While on the planet Hyda IV for a vacation with his parents and childhood friend, Sophia Esteed, it falls under attack by the Vendeeni. Fayt and Sophia escape with the help of a circus girl named Peppita. The three teleport to an escape ship, but the Vendeeni don't back off. Fayt manages to escape the wreckage and crash land on a remote, low-tech planet being subjugated by another high tech man who crashed here. After dealing with him, you run into Cliff Fittir, who takes Fayt off the planet. They then run into the Vendeeni AGAIN, and force Cliff's ship to crahs land on Elicoor III, a planet that's a bit closer to 16th centruy Earth. There you are captured by the local guards, on charges of being an engineer for a country at war with your captors. You are broken free by a spy(Nel Zelphyr) of the enemy country, named Aquaria. Nel escorts you to Aquios, where she then returns to Airyglyph, the country that captured you, to retrieve some friends who were captured aiding your escape. Fayt and Cliff go back after her andmake the rescue while toppling one of Airyglyph's highest generals. From there, I can't tell you because well, I have to get there! |

First of all, the original Star Ocean was released for the SFC, entirely independant from it's PSX sequel (No, the subtext 'The Second Story' was not just a clever title). Second, it was developed by the same team that did Tales of Phantasia (Who, after their departure from Namco became known as Tri-ACE). They have developed the other Star Ocean titles, as well as Valkyrie Profile, as well as the upcoming Radiata Stories. The only ripoff occurring, is from the Namco Tales Studio (Or whatever it is they call themselves). They have been responsible for all of the post-Phantasia tales entries, but have nothing to do with the original development team. |
