Detective Conan

As a Sherlock Holmes reader, I must say i am impressed with this anime. Its intelligent, funny, and they mysteries arent obvious ala scooby doo.

yea but with an exception of one episode there really isn't much character development.

AndyBloodredMage 11-05-2004 06:27 PM

The series isn't about the characters, it's pretty much about how the detective solves mysteries. I really find it cool, and was even able to guess at who killed someone and how a few times. A rather well-done and well-thought show.

I personally really enjoy the series. They don't really build on characters, other than the whole thing with Jimmy being stuck as a kid; but the show isn't about the characters. It's about the crime and how the kid solves it. very well thought out, very interesting mysteries. Of the ones I've seen I managed to solve almost all of them except the moonlight sonata case; but I don't think anyone expected that ending.

For those of us who don't remember the show's episode names, could you please give a synopsis with this surprise ending?

Detective Conan is like Encyclopedia Brown, if Encyclopedia Brown found hideously gory murders at every turn.

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche 11-06-2004 04:18 PM

Yea Hidiously Gory Murders is it just me or is it at the end of every one theres some kind of sad reason why they did the crime.

AndyBloodredMage 11-06-2004 05:00 PM

They had to do something for those five minutes until Lupin came on.

Aerozord 11-06-2004 05:04 PM

I will say what I have said for awhile...those kids must live in the worst neighborhood in the world. When little kids find a random murder a week then something is wrong

Outbounder 11-07-2004 06:00 PM

That what I always thought. It wasn't that they were called to a murder, they always happened to be there, or had some previous connection.

The only problem I've found with the series is that you really can't watch the episodes more than once. Twice at the most, just to see things you may have missed the first time.

I really don't like this series. If I were one of the characters, I'd be the most depressed person ever. "I'll be right back; I'm going to check the mail... Oh No! A dead body, and only I can solve the mystery. Just like yesterday and the day before that..."

I don't like it because it seems so absurd at times. The lengths these people go through to commit murder is unrealistic. Let's see... I could kill him and then go through these ridiculous lengths to cover it up that would never happen in the real world, or I could do a drive by.

For the love of God, if a famous detective has been invited over for dinner or a party, don't commit murder that same night!

I know that's not the point of mystery stories, but Sherlock Holmes seemed to be... what's the word... plausible.

Let the flames begin.

gurusloth 11-08-2004 04:01 AM

Well, the kid does tend to hang out with a homicide detective a lot, so that might cause him to come across more murders than usual.

TheZeroMan 11-08-2004 05:30 AM

You know when are they going to figure out its just these kids killing all these people? Coincidence that they find the murders, I think not. Then they just rely on that one kid's rep to bail them out and pin it on some poor schmoe.

This show should be taken off the air and everyone involved with its creation and distribution taken out into the backyard hit sharply with a stick and told, "no."

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche 11-08-2004 05:59 PM

i really only watch it to see what kinds of horrid disgusting murders can be commited next

Most of the people that commit these murders are just average joe type people doing a spur of the moment thing, they arent gangbangers or anything like that, its like playing the game clue, except with alot more covering up, they are shocked after they murded somebody and noone wants to go to jail so they cover it up as extremely well as they can to not be caught

Aerozord 11-08-2004 07:45 PM

it wasn't spur of the moment. It was all carefully planned out.

Psrdirector 11-18-2004 07:15 AM

I like this show.
And dirve bys are a really poor way of killing someone. You dont know if there dead and in the real world it is not as hard to solve as you may think it is. Most of his cases like in all detective movies, in the real world the police would be able to survive (well they arnt stupid enough to over look some real obvios evidence, and the do ferensics). in holmes days they made more sence, but any modern one is inherintly un accuret. cause well who wants to read about someone matching bullets, testing dna, running profile, looking through databases. and all that fun stuff.

Hunter_Shu 11-18-2004 07:30 AM

While I like all the parts important to a mystery, I find one thing annoying: Justifiable Murders. As in, very nearly all of them are. I wanted a few more cold-blooded or selfish reasons for murders, ones that are motivated by the more base human emotions. Only one of those I remember was the woman who pretended to be looking for her father. The criminals always had a relatively good reason for commiting their crimes.
