Dude, where's my rep (from)

While I agree that who gave you negative rep should be hidden, to prevent pointless wars, I think that you should know who gave you positive rep so that you can thank them. To this end, I have created this thread.

who gave me this rep here?

I recently got a positive rep point from someone for my post Here in one of the old calvinball threads. I'd like to thank whoever gave me it.

Also, as an aside: I always identify myself when I give someone positive rep. It's just the courtious thing to do. :D

Kitty Cannonade 11-05-2004 10:39 AM

How do you know when you get rep points? Since reading this thread, I've been curious. I've found that I have ten points. How did I get them? Is there a way to find them?

The Mirror Emperor 11-05-2004 10:43 AM

You have ten points from the start. You know when you get rep by looking at the User CP. Postive rep gives you 2 points, neutral gives you none and negative takes away 1 point. You get postive rep by doing something everyone likes, or adding in a mature and thoughtful statement to a thread and negative rep for unappreciated sarcastic remarks, flames or spam.

Kitty Cannonade 11-05-2004 11:51 AM

Okay, thank you, Mirror Emperor.

slightly aboveaverage man 11-05-2004 11:52 AM

Actually, the points are based on post count. It seems that anyone with 0-200 posts will only result in Neutral rep. 200-999 appears to give you 1 point, 1000-1999 seems to provide 2 points, and 2000+ gives three points. This is an estimate, not the actual numbers, but that's how it works anyway.

Krylo 11-05-2004 12:58 PM

I give five points. Also, other users give/take away your rep, so you can get negative rep for a well thought out post if someone is on the other side of the spectrum. I've gotten negative rep for posts I've been told people like, positive ones for things I probably shouldn't have, and, I believe, once in the past, gotten both on the same thing.

BlackMageGirl! 11-05-2004 01:05 PM

Well, I got a unknown rep point for this poem.

They didn't sign their comment afterwards. Whoever gave me rep for it would like to thank them. ^_^

Deathosaurus Wrecks 11-05-2004 01:12 PM

whats interesting, is we dont seem to have anyone with negative rep on the boards. it seems to go down to neutral, then we've got people who have disabled it. this leads me to two conculsions: 1) we've got a pretty decent group of mods who remove malignant posters; 2) the reputation system is really of no help.

Bailey 11-05-2004 01:14 PM

or a couple of the people who disabled it would have negative rep otherwise

Elliena Camile 11-05-2004 01:20 PM

I got rep for my avatar and also for the trumpet player joke I posted in the joke thread. I don't know who gave me either rep, but if either of those people read this, Thanks :)

Yeah, I'm thinking it's probably the further.

BlackMageGirl! 11-05-2004 01:23 PM

Well of course you would think the further...after it was totally not edited.
Meister has gone mad with his moding powers! Everyone run!
And I would like to tell my sister that the rep point she gave me doesn't count yet, but I really appreciate the thought! ^_^

Meister 11-05-2004 01:50 PM

Hm? What?
sowwy... :D

CheshireThief 11-05-2004 02:48 PM

I generally sign my rep. However, there was a day when I just went on a rampage giving people rep left and right. It was bad enough that a message came up telling me I couldn't give any more rep that day. Wait 24 hours and try again.

Rhana 11-05-2004 02:48 PM

I don't have neg rep...I think....I hope. I'm just really self-conscious, and, well....I'll turn it back on if you want. I realize it won't bother me now.

Edit: EC, you're welcome. I don't usually like getting recognized for stuff, I prefer being an anonymous little ...whatever. Good-rep-giver.

h4x.m4g3 11-05-2004 02:51 PM

I got one point from trying to make SAAM a new avatar.

and another point for Great Gremlins reference in the caption this picture thread.

Lycanthrope 11-05-2004 03:02 PM

I'd like to know who, besides CT, gave me rep for being the puppy. Also, a looong time ago I got a positive rep for an entry in the RP "Metropolis" which I always wondered about.

shiney 11-05-2004 03:05 PM

Most of the people in this thread have given me rep at some point, I think. So thank you to the ones who did. I have the ability to see who has but it only goes back 5 points of rep history so I can't properly thank everyone.

The Argent Lord 11-05-2004 03:56 PM

Did anyone get anything from someone who was "giving away rep" last night?

videogamerz2000 11-05-2004 04:36 PM

I recently got rep from 2 accounts. Some from the same thread of Calvinball 6 (same as SAAM) but also from NPF Songs. For what reason, it say's nada.
Meh. Can't complain.

Rhana 11-05-2004 04:38 PM

Sorry, I guess I've been bugging a lot of people with that. I didn't realize people normally signed it. I'll remember from now on.

Dragonsbane 11-05-2004 04:43 PM

I didn't get any......:(

By the way, I can't seem to give rep to anyone with a postcount of 1000 or more, regardless of how long ago I gave them rep.

For example...I gave SAAM rep way before BMG!, but I just gave BMG! more rep now. However, I am still unable to give SAAM rep. GIVE SAAM REP!!!

MasterOfMagic 11-05-2004 04:43 PM

I did, and bless whoever that could be for it.

I also got rep from one of my rare adventures into the discussion forum with no comment. Who? Who is this mysterious rep giver?

Rhana 11-05-2004 04:46 PM

Again, sorry. It was probably me, I've been giving a lot of rep lately, and I didn't realize that people here signed it.

MasterOfMagic 11-05-2004 04:50 PM

Oh, oky doky. I didn't see your post before, or I would have assumed...

Don't worry, I like it when I gets rep, whether its signed or not.

chryos_the_forsaken 11-05-2004 07:34 PM

I got one a few days ago, i think from the npf comic thread, no signature on it, just wondering?

My Lead Airbag 11-05-2004 07:47 PM

I've only gotten one piece of rep, from someone who didn't sign their name and just put 'Well said...'. Thing is, I don't know if it was just some guy who thought what I put was funny (I corrected a guys sentence in joke form), or if it was the guy I corrected. I hope it wasn't the guy I corrected, cuz then it wouldn't be a happy ellipse.

Osterbaum 11-06-2004 05:36 AM

Hmmm...I usually don't sing the rep I give, but also usually it's not that hard to guess.

And I received rep from the two poems I last posted in 5minute. The message said nothing, but I'd like to know who it was? Thanks still though.

I also got some from CT's song thread, with the message: "I'm giving out rep today". Thanks to anyone who it was.

Cloud Strife 11-06-2004 06:13 AM

Okay, I received rep for this poem. A lot of it actually. Two of the six I got for it were blank, thanks to whoever it was that gave me the rep. And thanks to the rest of them too, it's just I already know who they are.

And going way back to the near beginning of this thread, EC, you're welcome on the trumpet player joke rep. :)

EDIT: Wow, this thread is shorter than I thought. So, not way back, but on the top of page two.

The Argent Lord 11-06-2004 12:27 PM

I was the one giving out rep. Yay!

Osterbaum 11-06-2004 01:08 PM

Woot! Thank you.

Now that that's cleared up...Who was TMK short for again?

BlackMageGirl! 11-06-2004 01:48 PM

The Mirror King. That was The Mirror Emperor's previous screename before he decided to change it.

Osterbaum 11-06-2004 02:09 PM

OF COURSE! Man I feel stupid now. Well thanks TMK...Or TME...Whatever...

BlackMageGirl! 11-07-2004 12:03 AM

Well, I got a rep point from the Wing Wong thread, identity unknown. It's only worth one, so that narrows it down some. Well, whoever it is thank you! ^_^

The Mirror Emperor 11-07-2004 12:34 AM

You're welcome..but I forgot on what exactly I repped you on. :-p

I'm pretty sure a mod probably did this, I just wanna know which one so I can cater to his/her every whim:

"11-05-2004 04:36 PM Your act of sharing informative data demonstrates maturity, therefore thou hast been REPPED!"

Dragonsbane 11-07-2004 01:50 AM

Oh...that was me, and so was that one I sent CT that mentioned ninjas. Anything with a BnG quote is also probably mine.

Wait...I sound like a mod? Cool, and technically correct, on another forum.

Bailey 11-07-2004 07:07 AM

personally, the only time I wouldn't sign my rep is when it's for something big that's gonna get rep from everyone.

RaiRai 11-07-2004 07:57 AM

I recieved a lot of rep in congratulations for my wedding thread. It's nice to know people are happy Shiney and I will be married in the near future. =)

Osterbaum 11-07-2004 08:21 AM

It was for a poem in the 5minute poetry thread.

I see now. Thanks for the rep DB. :)

Nosferatu 11-07-2004 10:43 PM

I'de say they should just have it show you who gave you Neg/Pos Rep automaticaly.

Some people just don't know they arn't sending a name, some just wanna be mean(wit neg). I honestly will love to know who gave me rep good or base so I could thank them, or ask why.

With that aside, I've got 12 points.

Pos rep from Bob the Merc I think it was, for helping with a military question. Thank you ^_^

LeefRyder 11-07-2004 11:12 PM

I never sign rep good or bad. I like it better anonymous, that way I know what people really think of me, because they're not just saying it to get on my good side. And usually judging by the post I made that got rep and what is said in the rep 99.9% of the time I can guess who it was from.

BlackMageGirl! 11-07-2004 11:23 PM

Well I usually do the same LeefRyder, but in this case it didn't have a message either. All I know is that it is worth 1 point. Confuses me to no end....

LeefRyder 11-07-2004 11:26 PM

hehe at least ya know somebody likes what you've got to say :)

BlackMageGirl! 11-07-2004 11:31 PM

^_^ Yeah, that's true. Well usually I write a comment and sign it, but that's because I'm a good little girl.

Zweihander 11-07-2004 11:47 PM

I've gotten a few reppings, for no reason that I can fathom, but the last two actually had comments on them. One was from BMG! for helping her out with her bug invasion (signed, off course), and the other was from someone complimenting me on the linkage to a History Channel thing about Halloween in the Halloween thread. I think I know who it is, however.

Bailey 11-08-2004 06:39 AM

Hmmmmm, who is this from?

Roommate Antics +1 point comment: I

It confuses me!

RaiRai 11-08-2004 04:11 PM

It's a mystery. You'll never know!

gurusloth 11-09-2004 02:39 AM

Not to change the subject, but this seemed to be the most appropriate place for the following...

Woot! I finally got a point of rep. Life is good.

MasterOfMagic 11-09-2004 04:35 PM

This one was very amusing:

"Ninjas strike swiftly in the darkness! Fear the eskimos of the shadow!"

Very amusing. :D

Who done it?

Dragonsbane 11-10-2004 02:05 PM

Think about it...who would do that? :D

MasterOfMagic 11-10-2004 04:05 PM

Why, I have absolutley no idea.... :P
