Aftermath: (sign-up)

You always see those movies about that one man army who goes above to law for revenge. They defeat insurmountable odds through sheer rage and tell rationality to go die. They kill the bad guy, but the movie conveniently trails off...

This RP is set right after one of those. We are those heroes. Except, we're already done carving a bloody path of vengeance. Now we need to pick up the shambles of our lives and try to move on.

This is primarily (And heavily) character based, and not all shooty-shooty-willy-nilly. That will show up halfway through though.

EDIT: Right. I forgot. Modern day setting.

Realistic to a fault. Except for the last half, then we can bend reality a bit.

END EDIT

Sign-up is as follows...

Name
Age
Appearance
Summary of Tragedy and revenge
Fighting style (For the love of God keep it realistic. There are no kung-fu masters.)
Favored Equipment

Bio

And...yah.

Try to remember that this is deeply character based. If you can't be bothered to go into depth of what your character is going through, don't sign up.

So did we have individual "Carve a bloddy path of vengeance" stories and are now in some sort of AA style group, or did we all fight the same big evil? How far could we take our fighting styles (I'm thinking a lower key form of Gun-kata?).

Darth SS 11-05-2004 11:48 PM

We had individual stories.

And we probably won't actually meet each other until the second chapter.

And for your third question: I don't know what Gun-Kata is. However, our fighting "styles" are largely from improvisation, instinct, how many Bruce Lee movies you watched, and if you took any martial arts earlier in life.

This sounds interesting. If I come up with anything juicey, I'll let you know. I've seen enough Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell movies to flesh out an idea. More to the point, I like a challenge.

And oooh! Bruce Lee movies! I gotta write that one down!

My Lead Airbag 11-05-2004 11:58 PM

From Equilibrium, it was basically this 'fighting' style where (apparently) if you memorized all your opponents possible moves and attacks, you could react accordingly with minimal chance of getting hit.

So we play primarily every-Joes? Cuz a guy who can topple a [blank] using only his wits and ancient Chinese movie lore is pretty lucky. Could we have military experience, or even a knack for guns?

h4x.m4g3 11-06-2004 12:20 AM

Hmmm I think I'll sign up, character to be made once debate over limitations, skills, and etc is over. Right now I'm debating between a character heavily influenced by Tom Clancy (if you've ever read Without Remorse, think John Kelly) or some sort of badass ala Punisher.

Darth SS 11-06-2004 12:33 AM

Military training is allowed. Granted, we all must know how to fight somehow if we took down a huge string of guys.

Aeria 11-06-2004 07:43 AM

Gun-Katas are way too cool, that movie was awesome. Anyways, if you're not gonna even meet until about the second chapter... Why not just include all of that stuff that WOULD have been in chapter one in your back stories? That way you can begin with characters that can actually interact. Just a thought... And no, I won't be making a character, just 'cause I already have too much to do as it is. I do however wish you luck!

My Lead Airbag 11-06-2004 11:10 AM

Ya know, I just saw the part where he said that reality would bend in the second half...is this gunna be one of those RPs where it starts off normal and then we all end up with nigh-Neo like powers due to some god giving us a chance to redeem ourselves?

My guy.

Name: Job
Age: 34
Appearance: A moderatly muscular man with buzzed black hair, short somewhat scraggly goatee, and hazel eyes.
Summary of Tragedy and revenge: At an anti-war rally, where Job was the premier speaker, neither the rain nor the lightning could muffle the explosion. Luckily, out of the hundreds of people who were caught in the explosion, all but four survived. Job was the husband to one, and the dad to another, and stayed by both's bedsides as they struggled vainly to make it. The authorities called it an accident, a freak lightning strike meets generator situation, but Job knew better. It was no coincidence that the generator was made by the same company that manufactured most of the governments weapons in his mind. So after happening upon the CEO's house, then stopping in for a friendly visit, Job worked out his problems face to face, making sure to leave no trace he was there afterwards.
Fighting style: Seal training, favors handguns over knives.
Favored Equipment: Reconnaisance miscellaneous (night vision goggles, sonar), two handguns, swiss army knife.
Bio: Job was always a great sports player, so after highschool he joined the Marines, eventually getting switched over to the Seals after his talents got noticed. He served for ten years, getting out after seeing the ravages of war and meeting a nice woman in Spain. After settling down, he became a major persona in the anti-war community, lending his tragic stories to their cause.

The 'accident' occured a year ago, with no one ever finding out who did in the CEO. But when a new videotape showed up with footage of the generator being hit by an actual bolt of lightning, Job sunk into a greater depression than before. He hadn't been truly happy when he had gotten his 'vengeance', now that there was no one to blame, his life was in more shambles than ever. He turned to booze, trying to figure out what to do now that everything was gone.
Quote: "Sometimes I think it would have been better if they had been killed, cuz then I would have a chance for true vengeance. Now I'm stuck blaming God, and he's a lot harder to take down."

Aeria: Your comments are neither useful, nor thought-provoking. Thanks for wasting a post.

Lazy: Okay, you're in. Also, no we aren't bending the Matrix. It's just that the stuff we'll do is all 100% possible and explainable, it's just highly unlikely that anyone would try it or that it would work (This is fighting wise)

By the way, here's my character.

Name: Darren
Age: 26
Appearance: Very, very well muscled. He's tall, has a crew cut, scarily blue eyes.
Summary of Tragedy and revenge: One of the cases that Darren worked on involved the successful conviction, then execution, of several high ranking mafia leaders. Out of revenge, the new members executed his daughters, his wife, his father, then they paralyzed his mother and one of his friends. Darren joined a gang, and opened up a whole new definition to "street war." After a bodycount of around 260-ish from him and his pals, Darren finally got the ass that ordered the hits.
Fighting style: A mixture of street fighting, boxing, Judo, and Aikido.
Favored Equipment: He's a fan of dual pistols, regardless of make and model. However, his overall favorite is probably the 1411 Infinity. He usually has a switchblade or two as well, and plenty of spare ammo.
Quote: "Ironic isn't it? I send all that time sentencing them to death, using the law as my justification. Then when I forget the law and kill them with my own hands, I feel more vindicated then ever. So, why can't I sleep at night?"
Bio: Darren joined the police force at the age of 19, and successfully made a couple loops through homicide investigation, SWAT, then finally K-9 over the course of 5 years. After three years on K-9, he left and became an attorney for the D.A., specializing in the prosecution of mob and gang members. After his biggest and most successful case, he lost everything.

Now, he's trying to get a job as a bodyguard or a bouncer, and is trying to pick up the shambles of his life.
